Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
If it weren't for the dead trees in the background you'd think it was summer in Brownsville.
They can build, can't they? I've seen churches go up in a week.
I've only seen the stuff that they've built on tv and in magazines and they do great work. Furniture and quilts are nice, too, but they want an arm and a leg for those quilts.
JWs?
Is that the short form?
I went to a horse symposium a couple of months ago and there was this gorgeous quilt that I thought was outrageously priced until I found out how many hours went into stitching it. I have too much going on right now but I wouldn't mind learning to quilt when I have more time.
LOL You're right, neither group watches tv but I have seen the Amish handiwork on different news programs and documentary type stuff.
The Amish makes quilts and they are gorgeous. Lots of intricate work.
The owner came to get the lost horse. They used vets to communicate. She called her vet and he told her that our stable had a stray.
I guess so. There's low land all around here, and if it's not that, it's the old cars, tires and other miscellaneous junk that collects water. I think they can also breed in damp leaves and grass, but I may be wrong. Where ever it is, there's alot of it!
They had one built in a DAY not too far from here. It almost flipped my husband out. The framework was going up in the morning on his way to work and the brick was going up on his way home. I think he and another guy who was driving beside him almost had a wreck with each other because they both did a double-take so hard. He has to comment on it every time we pass that church.
Was this the horse that showed up all skinned up with pieces of wood in his back?
Yeah. I don't know any details yet as for as what happened or how far he traveled. The trainer was busy and some of the other boarders were updating me. He went "home" . It's not a bad idea to check with your vet though. He may have been called to treat if injured.
I watched them build one in a week, completed with a parking lo, landscaped and ready for services.
I'm glad it had a happy ending. Most of the time stories like that don't. Let us know what you find out though coz I'll bet it's an interesting one.
Man! And most people can't get a house built in a year. Very impressive
Your grass looks pretty and green. Mine's all dead looking. Mostly bermuda I guess. It was nice here earlier too. In the 50s I think, but the temps supposed to be falling down into the 20s tonight and will only get up to 34 tomorrow. Brrrrr! When I drove down to feed the mares I thought the wind was going to blow me away. It was definately rattling the tin on the barn. It was time to worm everybody again and the two pregnant mares needed their 7 & 9 month EHV-1 shots. They didn't mind the shots, but they sure didn't appreciate the worming. It was ivermectin though, so it wasn't quite as bad as when I use Strongid. That stuff must taste really vile coz they try to spit it out every way they can and I usually end up with it all over me and them both.
I used the ivermectin last time. They get the Stronid next. I can't say if my horse are good or bad because they will make a liar out of me each time:') Gonna go look at my forcast. Tuffy says some nasty stuff coming down. Funny. Becky used to be my indicator. If she's getting bad weather or rain, though a lot milder, I usually do too , a few days later:') We were supposed to go up by Abilene this weekend but weren't quite ready so we decided to wait a week. We may have wished we hadn't.
Girl, it is cold and windy and getting colder and windier. Is the cold front not down that far, yet? At least it's a dry front. Not a cloud in the sky.
Where near Abilene are you going? Did I tell you my inlaws live there?
No wind today at all which is unusual here. It's 73 right now so we were probably close to 80 today. They don't all make it down this far but a lot of the fronts do. We have to get up to Brownwood by the end of this month.
