The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yes :) I hate winter, I've probably mentioned that before.

Morning - if we could get some wind here to blow out the fog, we'd get some warmer temperatures. The wind blows here everyday, now that we need it haven't had a bit in two months.

I have to shoe every 6 wks. With the amount of riding I do, and over all the rocks, I very seldom get a reset. In the winter I could go 8 wks, and do sometimes. This time the weather worked against me, and now this broke down truck.

I never get a reset either. We are usually okay with the eight weeks, occasionally we need to shorten up if it's near a show. Sometimes it's because someone is getting a little long or shoeing date is to close to show date. We try to have it done a week prior in case someone gets ouchy after trim or shoeing.

Its a beautiful day in the neighbor hood here, sunshine, lite breeze, 50s headed into the 60s

Eat your heart out.

You sound like a woman with a plan! I don't know about the green paint though. The blaze orange would make them easier to spot with the mower.

I found this interesing.
A few quotes out of the local paper, from a couple of psychics concerning the weather.

"You don't have to be a psychic to see we're on the verge of massive weather conditions,'
Astrologer and medium Charlotte Moore of Kinsman agreed, saying weather problems will continue globally for the next eight years.
"We're going to see things we've never seen before, and it has nothing to do with global warming,'' Moore said.
Moore added that the brunt of the weather will be felt by states west of the Mississippi River.
Much of the tragedies, like the recent tsunami in Asia, are the result of birthing pains of Mother Earth.

I can spray those larger areas with diesel too.

Careful, EPA be after you! :O

I think, I would use Roundup or Preen.

Thanks, Becky.

I myself only own one QH gelding with COPD (OK, he's a pasture ornament. :-) He is on clenbuterol and a non-hay diet - he's allergic to hay. :-P

I'm a volunteer and co-caregiver for 27 more horses of all breeds, most of them aged or unwanted or horses with special needs.

I use mane tamer on mine. I found out the hard way not to use it before riding though:')

Well, yeah, I thought about a brighter color like orange, but my pasture would look like it had some type of acne all spoted up:) I figured a bright green, would be easy to spot, but blend in over all better. I'll just have to experiment.

I think unless you live here, it's hard to imagine the rock I have, and how the land is.

EPA has to find me first:)

Maybe our weeds are tough or something but I've never had good luck with Roundup or Preen.

Oh, I know that Round up and Preen are more for grasses then weeds.. Diesel will kill grasses and weeds.

I hate to say this:), but I'm outside now with just a tee-shirt and jeans. Even had to shed the sweat shirt I started out with this morning.
