Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
I was almost "unChristian like" in Walmarts last night. For some reason static electricity a problem for me and I got shocked opening the freezer door to get some Blue Bell out. I'm sure I looked really dorky, going around the store and taking my finger and trying to make myself touch metal before getting stuff:')
That I would LOVE to see! LOL.
I Just went over to see her, no sweating, feels normal but she hasnt eaten her last bucket. Shes normally a pig so that is not normal. She also has some reddish brown looking stuff on her back leg. A blob at the top and then a streak. and no its not horse Sh*t LOL
No, hes working till about 12 tonight. As for coffee..........not a bad idea but you make get a response from DeaconJim!
I thought it was just me that was weird! I get shocked all the time. Everytime i get in my van, the truck, touch the kids, you name it.
LOL I do the same exact thing. I usually touch something real fast then jerk away just as quickly. I do it all the time at work, and I know that I look like an idiot, but so far no one has said anything....
CORRECTION
I thought it was just me that was weird! I get shocked all the time. Everytime i get OUT OF my van, the truck, touch the kids, you name it.
Does anyone know why some people are affected by this "strangeness" and not others?
It could be the articles of clothing that we wear, anything that builds up a static charge such as fleece, that will discharge the charge through an unfortunate hand or foot makes contact with a surface
I've changed clothes, shoes, sprayed static cling om my shoes and clothing. Nothing seems to help.
That stuff on her leg doesn't have an odor does it?
It's kind of like when you make a sound that sounds like a fart and then you try to prove to others that it wasn't a real fart by trying to get the chair or whatever made the noise to make it again - and it doesn't!
Well I didnt smell anything and I certainly didnt put my nose in it, she wouldnt have let me anyway. She is not in a welcoming mood right now.
Just for grins... here's where the wiring runs, if you can see the wires on the top of the second 2X6 from the roof. In the first pic... There's the dead outlet near the pony's doorway, and the fence charger now connected with the extension cord to the other side of the barn that still has power. It's all high overhead, but exposed so you can see it most of the way around the barn. It ~was~ at waist level, and my dad moved it up high this last fall when we re-modeled the barn to make the doorways. When we raised it, there was extra length to the wire and we just made a big loop (second pic) you can see just to the left of the outlet.
The horses... seem to have relaxed some and were eating hay again in the lean-to. Pony's the one over there near the doorway. Bay nearer.
Bay ran pony out and went down to that hay rack... and now Cyn is coming in.
Their behavior this morning was likely unrelated to this electrical issue, and perhaps was due to some other animal or something in the woods. I just may never know.
theres not much there
That is very curious.
Its probably unrelated to her pregnancy.........she doesnt appear cut or anything. James pointed it out to me. Who knows. She is now back at her feed bucket that is taking her forever to eat.
As long as you don't think it came from ~her~... Might it actually be poop or mud or something? There shouldn't be any discharge prior to the birth that I am aware of.
I really dont know, I have just asked james and he said that to tell you it was down near her knee and was orangey in color. It wasnt much......cant begin to say what it was.
