The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Everybody here is so interesting and I'm so boring. Shooting, motorcycle riding and who knows what else. I have other hobbies besides the horses but they are on the boring side. I sew, take lots of pictures, put them in scrapbooks and... well and.....dang, I can't think of anything else!

My daughter and I had a very good ride today. No drugs but the horses were still acting somewhat silly. My husband cleaned up my "trail amongst the trees" that had gotten overgrown. There were even some trees down that he had to move.

I'm exhausted and fixing to hit the hay. Night all.

Once or twice a year going out shooting is really not the difference between an interesting or boring life :~D

70% of my time is spent right here at this desk. Most of the rest of the day has something to do with what goes into, or comes out of an animal ;~D

Well, I don't think you're boring at all. My hobby is taking pictures also - well and playing with polymer clay :)

Morning, all. Anybody else up early on this Sunday morning?

What do you do with polymer clay? I saw someone on a hobby tv show whose name escapes me right now making things with clay. It was small, intricate work and very interesting.

Good Morning

tuffy: No that is not a picture of us:) We're like Hair. Our lives are not all that exciting, we don't do that all that often. In fact after we got home last night we were saying we should do it more often.

Morning. You're up early, too. How's the weather up there?

I actually did do something exciting last night, my husband and I took the kids go-cart riding at the local track. My kids are wild behind the wheel of a go-cart and it's too funny. I was in a double go-cart with one of my kids that was too young to go by herself and this go cart was a little slow. I was purposely blocking people from going around me. nyuk nyuk nyuk

Looks/feels like it's going to be another warm day, but cloudy and humid. We have chances of rain all week.

Sounds like alot of fun:)

Good morning.... more rain here today I think. Not much on the agenda, though I've been thinking about rearranging the furniture :~D

I am going to get hold of my son to tell him to bring home our bobcat. He's been using it on his driveway, but I really do want to get the dead trees down and burned this winter, get some rocks picked up so my pasture will be in better shape next year. Time to get that started.

Ohhh... That's ambitious! I really hope to improve our pasture this summer, with three horses now on it that won't be easy. It's plenty large, and having the two areas it should be able to provide enough pasture, but it needs fertilized. It just had no life last year, didn't grow like it should have, just the weeds did :~D

Oh man, it just started raining! It is warm, though. I have my office window open.

Fertilizing is on my agenda for the pasture too. I have only enough pasture to give the horses something to pick at, even at it's best. I don't think it would support even one horse, unless maintained to the highest degree. Our ground is just not good. Too rocky.

I was thinking of getting the County Extension Agent out to give me some hints. There is a college sort of close by that offers some continuing education ag classes but my husband made the point that I could learn just as much from the Extension Agent and he'll come to me!

Our pasture should be ideal, good dirt, no reason to not grow well at least in the spring through July. I really wish I could water it. It will all turn to dust by August no matter what.

I've heard they do that in a lot of places, our local extension seems really unhelpful, I've called them before about coming out an helping to identify plants that might be harmful to horses. They almost didn't understand what I was talking about.
