We have a friend like that.... had to move it to a whole trophy room. Course most of the room was taken up by a half-mount bear that came out about 6 feet. He had shot the AZ state record black bear, so I think you have to do a big mount for that :~D

I think full body mounts would seriously spook me out. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with people hunting and having things mounted, but having the WHOLE THING standing there would give me the creeps. Wax museums do me the same way. I don't know why.

I gotta tell you a funny one on my former neighbor/landlord. He used to run a skating rink and would get home late at night after closing up with lots of cash on him so he always carried a gun. Well, his son thought it would be funny to put one of those life-sized cardboard cutouts of somebody, kinda like the ones you see at theaters sometimes, in his living room as a joke. Well, he opens the door, all the lights are off, nobody should be there, but he sees this "person" standing in his living room, and he SHOOTS it. Blew a hole in the wall behind it. They liked to have never let him live THAT one down. I'm just glad he didn't kill somebody, or have a heart attack coz he was NOT a young man. His son never played jokes on him like that again though.

ROTFL!
I have one of those movie standees of Frodo.

And I have a rug with a snarling face and that is silly enough seein' as how it was probably just browsing happily for berries when it my dad actually shot it.

Gary Larson did a Far Side like that... one frame had this pastoral image of the bear grazing along when it was shot, the other frame showed the full mount like it was fiercely attacking. ;~D

All ya need now is an elk mounted over the fireplace

Like you said, an elk head is large. When I get time to go home and stay there I hope to spend some time collecting furred, feathered and finned animals to adorn the walls. Remember that pic of the goose? He's in the freezer waiting to be taken to the taxidermist.

Looks like I'm going to have to cancel my lesson again. I had a baby sitter lined up for noon and she's a no show.

What do you have for a firewall?

Symantec Norton Anti Virus 2004. I really like how it works on Outlook.

Very very nice log cabin. There is a stuffed Canada goose in my living room. At Christmas, he/she/it gets little stockings and a wreath around the neck.

I have spent the last 3 days online, looking for a cabin to rent in Gatlinburg, Tenn for vacation. What a decision that is. They are all so beautiful. Anyone been there?

I live about 2 hours from Gatlinburg and have never been there. Some of my friends go there a couple of times a year and they really enjoy it. It never dawned on me to ask what they liked about it. Hmmmmm.....

The goose should be really pretty. My dentist has all kinds of water fowl mounted in his office. The wood duck is magnificent. The colors are just incredible. He's also got a shoulder mount black razorback. UGLY ba$tard I'll tell ya! Wouldn't wanna run into him in the woods AT ALL!

One of my few female horse buddies has a red fox head mounted in her living room. She's got the whole fox hunt theme going in there and he's a nice addition. She's put little wire-rimmed glasses on him and he looks pretty cute. It's kinda funny coz he was a road kill. She saw him laying there and just stopped, scooped him up, threw him in the trunk and took him to the taxidermist on a whim. She said she would've been mortified if anybody had seen her. We all got a good laugh out of it.

I've been there a good bit, but it's been years ago. I've never rented a cabin there but I know people who have. Like you say, the choices can be mind boggling. The traffic in "downtown" Gatlinburg is horrible. It's your typical tourist trap with souvenir shops, goofy golf and cheezy museums and stuff, but it's fun. Pigeon Forge is outlet mall heaven and has Dollywood, a music oriented theme park. This ought to be a good time of year to go though.

Most of our farmland across the country has been depleted of its nutrients. There was a reason God instructed the Israelites to rest the fields every 7th year. The need for supplemental vitamins is greater than ever because our land isn't providing them any longer.

Hunting birds is cool because there is actually a challenge trying to hit a bird flying by. Deer hunting, on the other hand, doesn't make sense. You put out corn, sit 12 feet in a stand, drink beer and wait for the deer to walk 20 feet from you so you can blast away. Where's the challange there?

Yeah, I guess that's what it is with me too. Especially at the was museums. They're just downright spooky. Maybe I saw too many Vincent Price movies as a child.

Welcome Keith, I don't think I've seen you on this thread before. It's nice to have new voices.

I think baiting deer during hunting season is illegal, at least where I'm from, but I'm sure it doesn't keep some people from doing it. And, I think you're right about the hunter sitting there waiting for one to walk by and blasting away is not being very sporting, but I'm sure the deer hunters out there would beg to differ with me. I've never been deer hunting so I'm sure there's alot more skill involved than I know. Deer meat sure is good though so I'm not gonna look a gift horse(deer) in the mouth. ;o)
