The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Like Duchess said... there are a lot of people who benefit from leasing... The people who want to lease may do it because they either don't want to commit to ownership or can't afford the purchase price of a valuable show horse that is just an 'extra' for the owner at the moment.

This stable gets the best of both worlds, they get to lease out the use of the horse, without losing tabs on their care, because they stay right there.

slow night for pop ups but it's usually about 10 of the same ones

Switch your browser to Firefox and that problem will go away.

Strange to get out of the blue, yeah! It's not a ranch you've talked to before?

AAM: Cindy pinged you the other day to a discussion we were having on liability insurance for riding groups. I didn't see any response, but I have a question too along those lines that you may be able to answer.

I "think" if someone is at your house and you let them ride one of your horses, and they get hurt, wouldn't your Homeowners Ins. cover you? and 2) would your homeowners Ins. cover you in say my situation where I have an occasional "student" who pays for a lesson? or is this considered a business so wouldn't be covered? and 3) what about someone who brings their own horse to use my arena for no charge? for a charge, (I dont do that, just curious).?

IOW, I don't have an "offical" business teaching, but I do get occasional people who want lessons, people who are friends of friends who I don't know, and I charge.

The liability end is what has kept me from prusuing giveing lessons in a more aggressive way.

Becky

It's really easy. Just click on the 'Free Download' button in the upper right side of the web page and it's only a step or two away from there. It even imports your bookmarks from your existing browser, probably Explorer. Then you can get rid of Explorer.

If this doubles, sorry. I don't know what happened to the first one. Yeah the same adopt the horse place. It just seemed strange to me . It was like "if I pay board and all expenses for your horse you will let me come ride him on your place? Uh, no thanks"

Good morning. 40, rain and fog this morning. Thunder storms through the night and Maggie, 4 yr old Llaso Apso, she is so afraid when we get storms, she paces and pants (sp), goes around in circles, gets all anxious... and keeps you awake through the storm all night, big ol scaredy cat.</p>

It wouldn't appeal to everyone, and the wrinkle with it being right there at their place is the stable might have the temptation to get overly involved in the lessee's decisions. The temptation to do that would be HUGE.

As lessees, those people should have the right to decide to take the horses on trail rides, to shows, decide on tack and type of riding to do, and all the other day to day decisions about the horse.

I leased my stallion from the owner. They only wanted to keep a little tab on his welfare. I boarded him where I wished, could show him, breed him, even geld him if I chose. I paid all expenses, they got invitations to come see him show if they wanted. They wanted the ability to check on his welfare only.

I've thought of leasing my pony - either as a prelude to check her out for an eventual sale, or to a kid that couldn't afford a horse but had experience and would like her as a project. I'd do whatever was needed to trailer her around or help her out, and would want to keep her here. I'd have to lease to someone who who wanted me to be involved. I'd likely pay all the expenses too though ;~D

Ok I have it down loaded. I came back to FR under Mozilla. Can I just not use microsoft explorer or do I have to delete it? I usually open thru Yahoo. Also Mozilla is in my..., shoot I don't know what to call it, it's where you hit the line and it's there but you have to open it back up. Do I close that or leave it?

It's chilly here. I'm glad my horses aren't like my dog. She wants in my bed under the covers during storms:')

Do not delete IE....just leave it on there, if you are using the other for your browser.

The only problem I have seen so for is that I knocked Aol out but I can live with until my husband can reprogram it. Firefox doesn't seem to be able to get me past a sprint ad and when I go thru explorer I'm not registered anymore.

I don't use AOL. Never have.

How's your weather? It's supposed to turn cold up home this weekend but I'll still be down here in the land of the ubiquitous geezer.

That's just where I get my e-mail. I don't use it for anything else.

It's chilly here. We were supposed to go to N Texas this weekend but the owner of our company came in and changed our plans. Probably best because I heard it was supposed to get bad up that way in a few days.
