Thread Four: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1332664/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
LOL!!! Dontcha know the Deacons at THAT church wish they'd never sold him that bus.
Not sure but I think we rode together that time. Those racks of ribs were delish at lunchtime. Still laughing about you racing those cowboys. You not only out ran them but passed them when they tried to block you. : )
That cloud extends to my computers too.......
We did. Those were my younger, stupider days. I don't think I'd do that again. I'm just glad I just broke my tailbone. I coulda broke my neck!
Wagon teams usually travel together and hopefully someone would be around to help.
I know!
Well ya'll, it's been a particularly enjoyable evening but I'm off to bed. Talk to ya'll tomorra.
LOL! That was back in the good old DRY days......
If you were riding a horse that would run, I think you would still race them. And beat them again......
Good Night, got to give it up also.
sorry so long in replying.........we live in Georgia! It's taken me 4 years to begin to understand the accent! If it gets too much though, i can always swear in the Scottish dialect really sweetly and nobody has a clue what I am saying! LOL
it must have been the same site we found, cost an arm and a leg!
If you can find the catalogue, let us know.
Much appreciated.
I get most of my stuff from my trainer and I had one of her catalogs awhile back but had to return it. That's probably where I saw it. I'll ask her tomorrow.
Thanks.
Well James (deaconjim) should be back about midnight so i am going to cool a beer in the freezer for him and say goodnight on here.
Have fun.

My reply and followup:
It wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't allowed, but do you know where there is a list of banned drugs? I know horses on Isoxoprene compete in other types of disciplines, and I wouldn't think they'd all be illegally doing so.
Curious, RE: the heart rate issue. Is the heart rate itself judged at the start, or merely the difference between resting and working heart rate?
And BTW - I don't know for sure that Bay has a raised heart rate or that Isoxoprene does raise heart rate, my vet did not describe any side effects like that... Not that I think it would make a difference on whether it was worthwhile to give him. He's 22 and it's sound without it.... which would shorten his life more, his heart rate, or his soundness?
I've been thinking, as long as Bay still felt good at the end, I really would never care if I were scored down on things like that, the fitness of my old guy compared to an ideal young horse.... I'd care more about the horsemanship points for pride's sake, but not really give a hoot if I placed. I'd just want to be able to go along for the ride if ecurbh wanted to do it.
err.... He's 22 and ~ISN'T~ sound without it....
Good morning
Becky
No I don't use any special stirrups. Just western type.
What did they look like, differences?
