The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

My dad is a collector too. Cars , trucks, plane parts you name it. He was out in the country but all these people started moving in and building big houses and wanted a change in scenary. I think he enjoyed the uproar. My SM finally made him put up a road fence.

Wow, that is beautiful country. I just have to keep reminding myself - ticks, humidity, of course, there is NO SNOW either.

LOL!! I imagine you could use a little of our "NO SNOW" right about now. Those pictures you posted earlier looked almost like a white out. I couldn't see your mountains at all. I'm glad the sick horse turned out ok and you didn't have to tough it out without a vet. That would be extremely bad to have to go through.

Thanks. It's snowing again, another foot predicted tonight. Boy due I hope they are wrong. The only consolation that I am getting is that since this hasn't happened since 1916, maybe it won't happen again in my life time. Next winter like this and I'm gone :)

I think I heard on the news today that the drifts along the sides of the road in the Reno area were 10 FEET high! Have you seen any of that?

Yes - we keep plowing it and shoveling it and snow blowing it and it won't melt. Just keeps piling up.

How in the heck to ya tell where you're going? You can't see out and the road signs are all covered up and heaven help you when you come to an intersection and you can't see around the corner. It'd be like driving in a rat maze!

Had to see him about a puny cow. Hope she is better tomorrow.

The little Manx mama cat at the barn had a run in with something. The left side of her face is swollen and it looks like she was scratched on her back. Not sure what she tangled with but she does look the worse for wear.

Beautiful, sunny Nevada :(

Northern Nevadans — weary from multiple storms that have dumped nearly 7 feet of snow in the Reno area over 10 days — must face one more round of heavy snow before a weeklong respite. Another storm is expected to wallop the area again late tonight or early Tuesday with up to 8 inches on the valley floors and up to 30 inches in the Sierra Nevada, the National Weather Service projected. But clear weather is expected Wednesday.
