Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
What can I say. My county red but we are surrounded by blue:')
Spiders and rats don't bother me. Snakes scare the hell out of me though.
When I lived in North Carolina I had a rat snake that lived in my barn, plus tons of cats. That kept the mice, etc. under control.
Here I have four feral cats and chickens which again, keeps things pretty much under control.
Speaking of chickens, last night I was out feeding the critters and I was in a hurry, I had to be somewhere with the kids. Anyway, I notice that one of my cats is in my chicken coop. I have no idea how he got in there but I went in to get him out. Soon as I step one foot in the coop, the dang rooster starts attacking me! He attacks me all the time but usually gives up after a couple of kicks from me. He wouldn't give up! I grabbed a broom and whacked him with it and he started spinning in circles. I knew I killed him. He got up and walked away but he sure stayed clear of me after that. I feel bad about it, I wonder if I broke one of his wings.
Boy, I'd be finding a home for that rooster. I like the large brahmas because the roosters are so gentle. So what was the cat doing in there?
Such a pretty boy :)
Now this guy is gorgeous.
They are darling. We raised Alpines for awhile but only have two of our ladies left. Sold the rest and these two just hang out with the llama and help keep down weeds.

Nice. I just have to find a place to put one and might have to live in it awhile:')
He sounds like coyote bait
That's what that little brown animal is! lol (1168) Esther Ruth, your animals are adorable. Is this the horse that likes the fire place? :')
Thanks for the list :)
A lady I know slightly built a two story barn, huge thing and the top floor is their house. I don't know what the floor plan is like.
A barn I boarded at in Alabama had a second story that held a hay loft, openings in each stall to drop hay down and a one bedroom apartment. It was really nice. Made out of cinderblock to prevent fire. Most of the horses were show horses, Tennessee Walkers. Then there was my little appaloosa :)
