For the past several months, fate has conspired to keep me away from the computer. I haven't posted nearly as much on FR as I used to. With the holidays, though, I've had an opportunity to catch up a bit.
What I found on my return is a bit disconcerting. While there's always been an element here that refuses to reason and does little more than insult Democrats and RINOs, it seems that this mentality has taken over a large portion of our membership. I've encountered more shrill, radical nonsense in the past couple of days than I had in the months before my absence.
Certainly it's acceptable to gloat a bit after our enormous gains on November 2, but I do believe it's about time to get back to normal business.
Referring to Democrats as Rats or some variant thereof may be somewhat amusing, but seeing the reference in nearly every other post really gets annoying at times. Pet names for Democrats and RINOs may be funny the first time, but quickly get old. It's one thing to respect someone, and it's certainly acceptable to not do so for one reason or another, but it's never alright to be downright incivil.
Just the other day, I was in an argument here with some other members who were supporting Yanukovych over Yushchenko because Yush had pledged to remove Ukraine's 1600-some-odd-strong force from Iraq and was *gasp* more liberal than Yanukovych. Seriously, that's absurd. I'd be happy to debate with you here, but anyone can tell you Yushchenko as president will be much better for the Ukrainian people, our interests in Iraq be damned.
But I'm getting away from the subject at hand. These are just a few examples of the devolution of discourse here. While everyone is certainly allowed to have their own opinions, there is a certain level of civility that should be maintained, regardless of the context.
This is the sort of stuff you find at DU, not here. I recognize there's plenty of good, civil users here, and I'm thankful for that. To those guilty, though, it would be nice if you could tone it down a bit.
I love being here. Things like the Undead Thread, Daily Dose, and crushkerry's Lib Pundit tournament, along with the usual daily banter of normal news, makes FR like no other political site on the web. Let's keep it that way. Thanks for your time, and have a lovely day.
You crack me up.
I'm awake.
This gets my vote. Not only that, but they have been entrenched for a time that's been unhealthy to this nation. Notice how the Right has had to move Left in order to attract the maleable middle voters.
Not only have they kept the pendulem positioned leftward, they've damn near tipped over the entire clock.
It'll take a few more election cycles and more hands on deck to get the ship-of-state finally headed to starboard.
Since he identifies his astrological sign as Cancer, that means his birthday is somewhere between June 22 and July 22. His profile shows that he started his blog in September. Therefore, I'm going to guess he turned 16 in July.
We could make it a competition to guess the day.
I had hoped to do so ;)
*stage bow*
and my compliments to you for your #666 - an oddly coveted post ;)
Ahhhhhhhhh...your school yard tactics appear to be the only recourse you have.Pity that.
You've been kicked off of RBKA and exposed your true self;which only YOU appear to like. And as an OPUS,your pathetic effort is sub-par.
ps. I was asked to get a hair-cut or find another high school by a Mr. Smurf (1968). And you're so right about school counselors giving 'career' advice. LOL!!!
"Oh, there you go bringing age into it again!"..
I fear your age is showing..
I have nothing against your age.Sixteen is wonderful..but it does limit one in experience, wisdom, and judgement on when, where or if to speak one's mind...
Age prepares you to expect certain results if you decide to correct other posters on a forum with a Vanity sermon.
It does help to know when one has gone one step over the line when preaching to the members of a forum.
The student council may be a better forum for civility.
Does this mean that Klavg has to go straight to bed...and NO Dubosh Torte for him???
(If so, can I have his piece?)
Yeah, kinda oogied me out when I saw it. At least it's not on my license plates (man, I don't know how people drive around with that on their car).
I looked up the correct spelling,BTW,because I was looking to see just how long it would take to make, took one look, and decided that a cherry/almond strudel would be better for Christmas dinner,to go with the souffle my daughter was making and the cheese and fruit platter.
You are talking to the king of typos. No problem. And it was convenient for making the point I wanted to get across.
Entirely true that this is not a site for liberals, and liberals are not welcome here, but I cannot count the number of times I've been at other political sites, arguing with a liberal, and get hit with the "loonies at Free Republic" retort.
When you hear that, just consider the source. And we have been called far worse than that. I think you make too much of this but you words will not doubt cause people to think just the same and perhaps have at least partially the effect you are suggesting.
You pronounced yourself judge when you ascribed either guilt or the lack thereof in relation to a standard that you set in a forum that doesn't belong to you.
That's how you're arrogant. Self-reflection would do you a world of good. It's very difficult for arrogant people to see themselves as they are.
I saved a recipie from our last encounter...another Freeper was kind enough to post it. Haven't tried to make it yet though, baking kind of scares me. Sounds like New Year's Resolution material.
Most baking is NOT something to fear. I can always walk you through it,step by step. Dobos Torte is NOT for the baking novice, though.I can start you off with something very simple and fool proof,if you want to try to make something.
Thanks! I'll remember that offer! But for now...it's almost my bedtime and I think civility has returned to this thread. Either that or we've bored everyone to sleep.
A few more gadfly posts and it's off to slumberland. Nice to see you again!
Maybe this thread will now be retired. I'd hate to think that this one will become the new UNDEAD THREAD!
Nice to see you again,too. HAPPY NEW YEAR!Okay,so it's a bit early,but I shan't be here tomorrow.
