For the past several months, fate has conspired to keep me away from the computer. I haven't posted nearly as much on FR as I used to. With the holidays, though, I've had an opportunity to catch up a bit.
What I found on my return is a bit disconcerting. While there's always been an element here that refuses to reason and does little more than insult Democrats and RINOs, it seems that this mentality has taken over a large portion of our membership. I've encountered more shrill, radical nonsense in the past couple of days than I had in the months before my absence.
Certainly it's acceptable to gloat a bit after our enormous gains on November 2, but I do believe it's about time to get back to normal business.
Referring to Democrats as Rats or some variant thereof may be somewhat amusing, but seeing the reference in nearly every other post really gets annoying at times. Pet names for Democrats and RINOs may be funny the first time, but quickly get old. It's one thing to respect someone, and it's certainly acceptable to not do so for one reason or another, but it's never alright to be downright incivil.
Just the other day, I was in an argument here with some other members who were supporting Yanukovych over Yushchenko because Yush had pledged to remove Ukraine's 1600-some-odd-strong force from Iraq and was *gasp* more liberal than Yanukovych. Seriously, that's absurd. I'd be happy to debate with you here, but anyone can tell you Yushchenko as president will be much better for the Ukrainian people, our interests in Iraq be damned.
But I'm getting away from the subject at hand. These are just a few examples of the devolution of discourse here. While everyone is certainly allowed to have their own opinions, there is a certain level of civility that should be maintained, regardless of the context.
This is the sort of stuff you find at DU, not here. I recognize there's plenty of good, civil users here, and I'm thankful for that. To those guilty, though, it would be nice if you could tone it down a bit.
I love being here. Things like the Undead Thread, Daily Dose, and crushkerry's Lib Pundit tournament, along with the usual daily banter of normal news, makes FR like no other political site on the web. Let's keep it that way. Thanks for your time, and have a lovely day.
ash ?
Graduates of the B&B don't really grasp any conservative principals, but they are fond of meaningless exchanges like, "Liberals suck." / "Yeah, heh heh, they suck, heh heh." You can always spot them advocating explicitly unconstitutional acts such as deporting American citizens, tarring and feathering people, or torturing criminals. They don't know any better, because they're never actually read the constiution.
Really, for an education on this type, I suggest Yahoo. You'll find that you'll never want to leave Free Republic again.
Tell you what, Gabz, the shrinks are cleaning up down here in S. Florida! I hear that they put them in a rubber room and let them beat on the walls and throw things.
Rather a rubber room with a shikster head doctor than the Oval Office, I always say! ;-)
You read my mind and put it in more succint (and polite) terms than I. Thank you.
gotcha.
I couldn't agree wiht you more.
SEE YA
pcl????
And your point is?
You don't find it absolutely chilling that Hanoi John got as many states as he did? It should have been a blowout, ala Reagan versus Carter.
Just because the Election is over doesn't mean squat. The demons are still at the door.

You haven't been here even a year and you have the gall and audacity to post how FR has "changed"? Wanna talk about "the good old days"? I remember back almost 7 years, when cretinous newbies never posted mewling vanities. I remember back 5 years, when newbies NEVER posted vanities talking about FR's "decline".Heck,I remember well,2 years ago and again, your type of utter drivel was not to be found on FR. But,after being on FR since March of '04,you post this POS and are just giddy with pride at your doing so.
Go away, leave,or just keep silent, newbie;nobody gives a damn about what you have to say about FR;not a one of us!
"He played on our fears!"
And we liked it!
BTW..where's Algore been hiding since the election?
In Bob Shrum's basement...where they work feverishly on Gore's 2008 campaign...
And we love you. :-)
I love it when a newbie comes in and tries to change the rules of FR....dude...you have been listening to too much Styx lately....too much time on your hands.
Get over yourself. If you don't like it, don't post here. Its entirely your choice and I don't see a line forming begging you to come back. Beleive it or not, there wasn't a big ruckus, complete with hand-wringing and wondering about our self-worth, and what would ever become of us, when you got busy and left.
