Don't think I would've used that one as it's for broadband, but I definitely should've remembered to attach Vanity label on the title though.

You can't do these in IE. In firefox, try:

network.http.max-connections= 16
network.http.max-connections-per-server= 12
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy= 6
network.http.max-connections-per-server= 6
network.http.pipelining= TRUE
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests= 16
network.http.proxy.pipelining= TRUE

After you put those in, right click anywhere and create a new integer. Give it this name:

nglayout.initialpaint.delay

and put in a value of 750
See how that goes.

I also recommend you go into device manager. Do this by going into windows explorer (Start, programs, windows explorer), right click on your my computer icon, choose properties, then hardware and device manager. Find your modem on there and check all of the menus...Make sure your speed is set to the maximum bits per second. Click on ports and "communication port" and do the same. Hit ok and close that out, then go into control panel. Click folder opions, and under the view tab, untick "automatically search for network printers". Hit ok and exit. That should give you a small speed boost.

You can bookmark that, (if you're like me and sometimes forget the term to get in). You can check out about:cache in the same way.

Thanks for the help. I'm passing this on to a middle school puter whiz and see what he can do. Kids, they're not our future, they're ruling today!

Sorry for posting back, WAY LATE; the value=6 reads exactly:

"network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server"= 6

Sorry about responding to this in the next year!

Might as well add a comment to this thread. I've had to come back to it 3 times.

Well the words in #26 are not mine...so I'm no expert. I would uninstall firefox and download it again.

In addition, create a new "string" anywhere in about:config and label it privacy.popups.disable_from_plugins. Give it a value of "1." This should speed up your Firefox browser even more.

I use the Firefox "tweak" below. Try it and see what you think. I'm surfing fast as hell ever since I made the following changes:

network.http.max-connections: 48
network.http.max-connections-per-server: 16
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy: 16
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server: 8
network.http.pipelining: true
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests: 20
network.http.proxy.pipelining: true
nglayout.initialpaint.delay: 0
privacy.popups.disable_from_plugins: 1

Your feedback regarding the above tweak is most welcome and appreciated. Performing the exact changes in "about:config," as mentioned above, produces amazing results, in my experience; more superior than previously offered tweaks, even. Let me know what you think. Thanks, JDM

I haven't tried these tweaks on dial-up, so I'm not really sure. It does seem to speed things up pretty well on a T1, though.
