One of my favorite films, They Were Expendable with Donna Reed and various members of the John Ford Stock Company. I thought she was stunning as the struggling to be brave nurse, soon to be alone with a few others.

My pop picked up a book about such nurses and when and where they were last seen, waiting on some inland lake or near some dock, for a hoped for PBY; or actually, I think it was about the last PBY and other flights that attempted rescues.

A friend of my dad, Lt. Quanah P. Fields, was flying with a circus of remant flyers of the Allies, very near the area of the latest earthquakes. Around there, west of Java, he was lost, shot down by the Japanese in late winter of 1942.

Pop only learned of it a few years ago. He had always wondered what had happened to his friend, since they last saw each other at Kelly Field, Texas in 1941 before the war.

My hat is off to your father and to you.

Thank you and God Bless
