Okay, I'll play.

Define what the term 'conservative' means to you; include in your definition the meaning of your core beliefs.

Someone who believes in smaller government and personal responsibility. Family and faith are a more important part of civics than government and laws. National security should not be subverted to international approval. (President Bush is barely a conservative, IMHO)

Define what the term 'liberal' means to you; include in your definition the meaning of your core beliefs.

Socialist. See communism, fascism, "third-way" modern Europe etc.

Define what the term 'moderate' means to you.

Somebody without core beliefs or somebody confused by politics. They usually get their news from the MSM.

How far would you shift your position toward the opposing viewpoint without feeling you have co-opted or fatally compromised your core beliefs?

Only for political expediency would I shift my position. ie, I understand it is not politically possible to cut spending by the FedGov by 50%.

What would you consider as a position within your political philosophy to be 'too extreme'? Too far to the right of the conservative spectrum?

See above, sometimes my core values won't sell politically, especially given the state of the MSM.

Too far to the left of the liberal spectrum?

'The left' is inherently too far away from my core beliefs. I suppose outright Communism or Fascism would be really 'too far to the left'.

Thank you in advance for your participation in this project!

You're welcome. Oh yeah, Welcome to Free Republic and the kittens say hello!

The purpose of this lesson is to satisfy the California State Language Arts Standards for use of electronic and internet sources, reading comprehension, writing, and analysis of public debate; and Social Science Standards for democracy in action, the American political process, and participation in public debate.

Sorry, the "WTF Cat" is getting much mileage this holiday season!!!

My son e-mailed it to me about a year or so ago and I bookmarked it because I thought it was so funny. It seems to fit well on the Zot threads, no?

A Liberal:

Traditionally a liberal was considered to be open minded or open to new ideas. Such a person would have been open to debate. When testing the veracity of a new idea, they would have avoided ad hominem attacks, and let the idea stand or fall according to it's merits.

Modern liberalism:

We conservatives have noticed a mutation of liberalism that is know as modern liberalism or progressivism. This philosophy endorses socialism, to a greater or lesser degree. The modern liberal embraces an unrealistic idealism and ignores the failure of socialism in every society where it has been tried. They yearn for equity among the masses and believe that socialism will provide their brand of fairness, but very few (if any) wealthy liberals would hand all of their wealth to the government to be distributed among the poor. Knowing this, one can reasonably conclude that they are also hypocrites.

There is ample proof that liberals = socialists = progressives, and that this system of government has been a huge, catastrophic failure resulting in terrible human suffering. Knowing these things, the 'modern liberal' usually avoids using words like 'socialism' and prefers expressions like 'social welfare' or 'safety net'. Also, they try to play on peoples emotions rather than reason, because reason destroys their arguments. They would also prefer to silence or humiliate opposition, so that attention is never brought to their flawed philosophy. When exposed, they usually act insulted by the insinuation and try to demonize their accuser.

Again, this is a short summary.

It's natural for dogs to go for the jugular when they detect a troll.
