On all of our computers here at home (and we have a bunch), I have Firefox as the browser, plus Ad Aware SE and Spybot Search & Destroy (both free; available at www.download.com ) on each. Also running Zone Alarm Pro on every one as well (PLUS Symantec AV). Firefox has been a HUGE help.
Speaking the obvious.......but products like Ad Aware, Spybot, antivirus software, etc.....are useless unless you keep them CURRENT. They can only protect you from what they "know" exists. Too many seem to forget that. :)

The $100 laptop computer is here (well, a working model anyway, running Red Hat Linux), and boy is it ugly.

VoIP sounds death knell for home phones--"VoIP will convert the home telephone from analogue to digital and, once digital, the home telephone number will become unfixed," VoIP telephony is attractive to consumers because services are cheap and flexible. The appeal of VOIP is the number is portable. You can take it anywhere with you
just like you can take your e-mail address anywhere with you. Fixed home and business phone numbers are history...
