I received mine this week but have to wait till spouse is no longer on late shift, and planning for a day long Sunday ROTK fest. So while I'm gnashing my teeth waiting, I've been watching some of the extras on the dvds 3&4 and I think a lot of the comments I've read on this thread may be answered by watching them - i.e., why no shire scouring, etc.
The first item on dvd 3 about Tolkien is to my mind the best of all, it really gives a deeper explanation of what it is all about. And as usual the sections on special effects, costumes, et al, are FABULOUS! Will Sunday never get here?
LSA got it for me yesterday, I worked late so only got the first disc viewed tonight. I'm thoroughly enjoying EE.
