If you MUST know, my cat did a tap dance on the keyboard this morning. The next thing I know, the screen went blank. When it came back on a few seconds later it was sideways.
please excuse any typos. This is really hard.

One of the first responses will be:
Turn your monitor sideways.
[I've seen posted a solution for the sizeways problem, but I can't tell you what it is. I'm sure someone will show up with the answer.]

Hold down CTRL and ALT, then press your left or right arrow key. See if that works. You may have to press one a few times to get it to rotate enough.

Press CTRL + ALT + one of the arrow keys. This will make the display rotate clockwise/anti-clockwise until it is the right way up again.

Have your cat do the exact same dance on your keyboard in reverse. ;^) (someone will be along to help)

There is actually software that will do this. Mine will but I don't use it, myself. Perhaps you clicked on some software that had this feature, without realizing it. You might check there.

Right click on desktop, go into properties.
Select Settings Tab, then find the Advanced button.
In there is going to be a setting to rotate your display.

I have good news and bad news for you. The good news is it sounds like your cat reorientated your monitor this morning with the tap dance and it is fixable. The bad news is I'm a UNIX guy and not very good with Windows. Under start/setting/controlpanel/display check and see if you can adjust the setting there. Good luck.

I'm going to assume you have a flat panel (LCD) monitor that has software capable of rotating the image. You might try looking for the instructions, at the manufacturers website if necessary. Or, you could at least post the brand and type of monitor.

You might have a driver program on your machine that turns the picture sideways for the benefit of certain monitors that can be swiveled 90 degrees so that you can view things in "portrait" mode instead of the more usual "landscape" mode, and your cat has hit the magical keys that tell the driver to switch. If, while the computer is booting, the text and pictures are right-side up, then that's a good sign that this driver is present. You should be able to uninstall it by going to the control panel and going to the add/remove programs. Hopefully, the driver will be obvious by its name.
