First of all, Chapel Hill is a freakazoid town of aging hippies who discovered they can pull down $125,000 a year by teaching two classes. It's a great gig. They even have their own UNNCCH airlines for travel so they don't have to cross paths with the red residents. The usual periphery retail establishments crop up to cater to the faculty and students who immitate their professors, staffed by the ones who ran out of grant monies or couldn't hold a decent GPA. As for coffee houses being full of liberal pukes, it's the geography and demographics. Around me I have the bars filled with alchoholic liberal pukes. As for paying $3 for a cup of good espresso with some hot water, I have a stovetop espresso maker which costs $29. A milk foamer runs $10. I do go to the coffee joints to see some uncorral'd erectile hooter bobbers and free breathing nappy dugouts draped in batik printed see thru skirts. I do not go there to buy the coffee.
