December 14, 2004 -- LONDON — Writer Tom Wolfe won one of the world's most dreaded literary accolades yesterday — the British prize for bad sex in fiction. Wolfe won it for a couple of purple passages from his latest novel, "I am Charlotte Simmons," a tale of campus life at a fictional Southern university.

Do you know any college kids? They do not talk the way Wolfe has them talking. They may have two or three years ago, but not now.

He strikes me as a guy who doesn't care much for the South or for women. That's not based on any interviews, just on his portrayals in his writing. I think he's over-rated but to each his own. The book I am enjoying lately, Eats, Shoots and Leaves would probably bore most fiction readers to tears. :-)
