Rush Limbaugh Attila the Hun Chair: shopping for a good office chair for Christmas

Posted on 12/11/2004 9:18:09 PM PST by MAEsser

I was thinking of getting myself a gift for Christmas in the form of a new leather chair. I saw Rush's chair on his EIB store website a couple of times, but I don't like buying something if I can't try out first--especially office chairs. Actually, the thing that really scares me away from the EIB chair is spending $500+ for a real unknown. I looked at this one and was impressed, but I've got to know: is it really all that comfortable? Could it support a 6'2" 200 lbs. guy for 3-7 hours a day? Could any fans out there provide a testimonial as to its support, features, etc.? It'd be great to have something to replace this POS chair I've been using for the past few months. Then again, I wonder if it's possible to get it without the big EIB logo emblazoned on it. Nothing against the network, but the big logo on the headrest doesn't suit my tastes.

In case you don't know what I'm talking about, the chair can be found at http://store.rushlimbaugh.com/Products.asp?ParentID=48662 (second item). Alternatively, if there are any brands/models that you believe to be good, please reply as well. I'm hoping to find a high-back leather chair for not a whole lot of money, ideally less than $250.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and feedback. ;)

I'm looking at a few of United's products. They look ok, but I am trying to get away from the arm-rests-on-sticks look of typical task chairs. That's all United seems to do.

Does no one have the prestigious Attila the Hun chair? Maybe others share my aversion. :-/

Have a brand or model number? If you got it from Staples, you fared better than I.

Here's the two I have:
Not bad. Creaks a bit, though
and...

The armrests rotted away after hours of gaming.

That chair looks pretty sweet, Spandau. It'd scare the crap outta my kids, though.

Actually, the thing that really scares me away from the EIB chair is spending $500+...

BOFH has some creative financing ideas it this article: BOFH and the cyberchair

Other than that I have no real advice. Just though you might like a little late night humor on the subject.

Funny stuff, thanks!

Maybe I'll come back in the morning to bump this thread, see if I get any early risers who can comment on the Rush chair.

Depending on where you live, you might be able to find a good second hand office furniture store. While there were better pickings during the dotcom bust, most will still have fancy chairs at huge discounts.

"Do you have a model number or name for your global product? Maybe this (http://www.globaltotaloffice.com/usa2004/products.html) will help you find the name?"

Perfect! here is what I bought about 3.5 years ago with fantastic success: DEXTER PLUS™ 2432-16

We had good luck at the local office supply store. The catalog listed a lot more than they had in stock there but they ordered it for us. Catalogs list out the special features of each, like lumbar support, high back, tilt seat, tension locks, etc. We paid $400 for a $600 chair HON Model 2191 Executive Highback. I have a bad back and neck from a car wreck and the wife has a replacement hip - we needed a good chair and this fit the bill.

For anyone who's interested, I found out some information on the chair... Still, if anyone has plunked down the change for it, I'd love an end-user review.

Spent part of my morning tracking down info on the manufacturer. The chair is custom made in Canada by a company called Palliser. They do mostly home furnishings, but do cater to corporate orders and special promotional requests. Rush probably settled on a model and asked Premiere to work out a deal where they slap on the logo (for which I'm sure Rush gets a handsome licensing fee) and ship them out. Palliser doesn't sell to the public, so the chair is only available through the online EIB Store or through a big-box furniture store (Haynes, Room Store, Bloom Brothers, etc.) A company called Tuff Shirt has the contract with Premiere Radio to take orders through Rush's website. Tuff Shirt also has the deal with Palliser to order the chairs. The finished product is shipped to Medallion Enterprises, who handles distribution and returns. The chair is manufactured to order; there is no inventory and there are no returns.

I'm hoping now that my local big-box store has one in stock or can order one without a logo so I could try before I buy. That said, I'm not optimistic.

PS: In tracking down the manufacturer, I called the people at the Limbaugh Letter hoping they could share a little insight into the structure of the Rush Limbaugh empire. I got connected with two hags who were unhelpful and rude. In fact, the lack of direct communication options with the show, the merchandisers or anything else make me really think that Rush doesn't like his fans. That's sad for me; Rush was my hero growing up.

Also, FWIW, the chair is the Palliser Kananaskis, model no. 51014/59064.

I've never understood why Rush named his chair after a Welfare Queen like Attila the Hun.

Attila was just a gang leader who sponged off of productive members of society by violence or threat of violence.
