I quit drinking a little over a year ago. I did'nt hit a bottom either, I just got more tired of hangovers than I enjoyed being intoxicated. I actually think I developed an allergy to it because only a few drinks are enough to ensure the following day is a bad one. Thanks for sharing your story, Rob.
I am glad that you were able to quit. One thing that I have noticed is how much extra productive time I have available now that I don't have to schedule "drinking time"!
I have an allergy to alcohol....everytime I drink I break out in handcuffs.
I have a friend who is allergic to beer. He had to quit drinking it.
I never had a drinking "problem" other than I think I too developed an allergy to it. A severe headache within a few minutes of taking a sip is not a good sign. I stopped even taking a sip about 10 years ago. I am now the "designated driver" when I am out with my friends.

I gave up drinking seven years ago. I had just gotten married and was renting a house from my parents. My parents were not pleased with my fiance, and gave me an ultimatum. My father told me to choose between them and her. I chose Mrs. Exile. A few days after the wedding, they told me to pack up and get out. I hit the bottle hard during the move, and on October 31, 1997, I handed my mother the keys to the house and never saw or spoke to them again. I continued to drink pretty heavily until about May of 1998, when my wife told me I needed help. I saw a shrink and got some help with clinical depression. Shortly thereafter I had my last beer. I haven't had a drop of alcohol since, and have no desire to. My life is good. To everyone that has given up the "demon rum," I'd just say, good luck, and it gets easier.
