Im researching the Iraq conflict for a paper. Im including the internal politics within the country itself that led up to it. As well as the results, any info that you feel kind enough to offer me , will be appreciated.
"Well, first the Earth cooled, then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they died and turned to oil. And then the Arabs started buying Mercedes Benzes. And then Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di's clothes, I couldn't believe it..."
Here's a good site: http://www.thetruthaboutiraq.org/
Quick History: What is now Iraq (called Mesopotamia, then), was part of the Ottoman Empire which collapsed at the end of WWI. After WWI, the French and British divided up the middle east, with the French taking Syria and Lebanon, and the British taking Mesopotamia, Palestine, etc... The British then divided the mandate and created Iraq, Trans-Jordan and Palestine (with the intention of ceding Palestine to the Jews for a homeland as promised in the Balfour declaration). Chuchill fought against the creation of Iraq, as he felt its ethnic and religious divisions would fracture any state, and make it ungovernable. He argued for seperate Kurdish, Shia and Sunni areas, but was voted down by the FO.
Perhaps you could start by doing a google.com search of Iraq,
Iraqi politics, Iraq nation hood, etc..
This should swamp you with info. And how about going to your school library and or a public library and looking for books on Iraq, Mid-East.
I am sure your heart is in the right place and hopes to obtain some info to transpose into a paper etc., but as you can imagine your requests can encompass literally books of information. CC's reply though helpfull only represents a fraction of what you should know on this subject.
I assume the object of your paper is to express your degree of understanding on said subjects. Therefore you must dig in
into the subjects. No pain no gain. Hope you choose the pain process. You will find it most rewarding in the long run.
