Ok I'm doing a paper for class where I am discussing talk radio and it's presentation of news. I have already submitted my rough draft, and my professor has made some points i need to address. They are as follows
1) I need to tell about the political impact of talk radio.
2) Is it really the case that talk radio is objective? The hosts can control who gets through and who doesnt.
3)Talk Radio does report news with a conservative slant.
4) (after observing my reference to newsmax.com stating that liberals control the print media newspapers) It would be good if you had another source indicating this.
How should i respond?
A liberal professor? It depends on what grade you want and how much you value your honesty. Good luck.
#3 - TV and print media report news with a liberal slant. Anyone who watches or reads it knows that, if they're honest with themself. Many if not most radio stations subscribe to news services for their updates. Clear channel stations use ABC radio news, heavily left slanted. Others subscribe to CBS or CNN radio news, how then can their "news" be slanted to the right?
#4 - Your own eyes, ears and common sense as well as the professor's and the rest of the world's should suffice to prove that the print media is controlled by libs. Any denial of that is blatant dishonesty or incompetence of the mind.
1. Use....Paul Lazarsfeld, Bernard Berleson & Hazel Gaudet published "The People's Choice" which looked at 1940 presidential election and media influences.Extremely careful scientific method set the standard for future research.
Include the Radio Project, compare PBS vs Clear Channel on audience demographics.
2.Compare and contrast Air America,PBS and eg. Rush Limbough.
3.Not true. The vast majority of radio stations are affiliates of ABC,CBS or other MSM enterprizes, they report the news from these sources. However, The hosts more often than not, provide analysis of current news reports from a conservative pov.
4.Bernard Goldberg's "Bias". A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News.
Should take you about 4hrs to research and write.
Go to the political science periodical literature for studies on the effect of talk radio. About a third of the studies were garbage, another third were badly flawed or predictable, and about a third had useful insights.
2. Talk Radio is not objective, and is totally upfront about its biases. This complaint is a non-starter, since no talk radio host pretends that they are unbiased, unlike the major broadcast/print media.
3. Again, duh, no secret there.
4. Recent Pew (sp?) research study shows an overwhelming majority of journalists are liberals. List the editorial boards of the NYT, AJC, LAT, and the Seattle PI and rank them as conservative or liberal. Oh yeah, don't forget the WP...JFK
