Received a phone call last night. Person with a very heavy accent telling me I have been selected to receive a government grant of $25,000.00.
Asked me how I was going to spend it? Asked me if I pay taxes (4 times) Asked me if I had checking accounts. Asked me if I had savings accounts. Asked me for said account numbers.
SCAM. I gave him no info. Told him to send me my check. WAITING.... (that will be the day).
FYI, and your protection. Please beware.
Just tell Bill Clinton to leave you alone the next time.
I am glad I have the 'scam detector' mentality. I am ever amazed that people are taken in. Not that I am not sympathetic.
I already got mine in the mail.
I had to promise to pay taxes on it though.
I got one of those calls a few weeks ago. The guy was looking for my husband. Had a Middle Eastern accent I thought.
He only offered us $5000.00. I feel so cheated :-)
You actually got a check?
No. He never got a chance to get any info from me. He was very funny though. Breathlessly telling me how we can get $5000.00 just because we pay taxes.
I told him we were rich and didn't need any more money.
Some people have all the luck. All I have gotten lately is a Canadian asking my opinion on world affairs. I gave him an earful. heh
I knew this could not be the case since I have filed every year for the past 30+ years, and still have in my personal files a copy of every return I have file, with documentation for all deductions, I suspected some sort of scam.
I told her "I don't think so, you must have the wrong person. She then read my name (which she could have gotten out a phone book, and asked me for my social security number.
I told her I had no way of knowing she is who she claimed to be, and that I was not going to give her any information over the phone, but if she was legitimate, feel free to mail me any request for more money you may have, and I will have my accountant look it over, good bye", and I hung up on her.
I wonder how many people she was able to convice to give up their social security number and perhaps their credit card numbers (to pay the outstanding tax)?
I have one simple rule, I do not answer any questions from anybody that calls me.
Oooooo...I would have had fun with her. SHE would have to be the one to hang up on me....after I got her SS# and bank account #'s!
