You are better off facing an enemy on known rather then unknown ground.
In a house where you know all the noises and weaknesses you are far more secure then one where you don't. Shelters are often not very safe because they are often staffed by unarmed women. They rely on secrecy for security. They are a last resort.
It's even better when the bad guys get what they deserve.
I have a stalker. We put him in jail in September but he has a March release date, and the state psychiatrist has warned that he still hasn't learned his lesson. My dear friend Mr. Browning has been a great comfort to me while all this was going on. I hope I'll never have to call on the Browning for assistance in this matter but if I do, I want to know that the rounds are going to be placed exactly where I want them to be, no matter how high-stress the situation is.
Life is complicated. I am staying where I am for the present, despite serious threats, because it's very difficult to sell a house in the wintertime and move to a new city where I don't have a job. My children and I also have pre-existing health conditions that make it pretty tough for us to get health insurance, and we can't live in just any climate. Right now I have very good, very cheap health insurance for us. It takes time to replicate that elsewhere, and if/when I do, given the capabilities of the Internet, the psycho can probably find me anyway. Meanwhile, I have enough firepower in my house to take Tehran, have a dog and a state-of-the-art alarm system.
....getting out of house and out of state was the smartest thing I did when my first husband started to abuse me. I'm sure I would have been dead long ago if I hadn't.
Strong women are the majority of feminist. If you have a problem with feminist you have a problem with strong women.
In Guillermo's defense, he did put "feminists" in quotes, which I took to mean as "his particular definition of the most PC feminists".
I believe that your logic does not hold when you compare lumping "feminist" together with lumping "all men" together. A great many people see "feminists" as only a small minority of people, quite a few of which are men. Moreover, while I once described myself as a feminist, I no longer do so because it has taken on such a PC, leftist connotation.
As to strong women being the majority of feminists, many would disagree with that statement. Do you consider the Second Amendment Sisters to be feminists? A great many women who have been placed at the head of the "feminist" movement, would not, as nearly all such are very strong supporters of restricting people's access to firearms.
To me, this is a simple misunderstanding about the definition of a poorly defined term.
I consider the Second Amendment Sisters to be strong women, I support them wholeheartedly, and I do not have a problem with them.
I hope that you have been able to get a concealed carry permit.
I suspect that 50% of Americans live in a place where the windows must be secured. Moving is not always a viable option.
Thanks for sharing your personal perspective on this forum.
In his defense, he said 99%. It is up to you to decide whether or not you are in the 99% or the 1%
You tried to pick a fight by asking if you were in that remaining 1% and he avoided it by saying he doesn't know (the truth).
So then you tore into him...
And now you have accused him of saying you are weak somehow.
I just thought you should see this how 99% of us are seeing it. It seems kinda silly what you have done here.
Please relax and step back and realize that this man knows that all feminists are not the same...if he thought they were then he would not have left the 1% exception in there.
I got the impression from his original post that since most feminists are also liberals, then they would say that guns are bad, thus, disarming this woman and leaving her unable to protect herself, and that would fly in the face of modern feminism.
In my state, Maryland, almost no one can obtain a CCW permit unless he/she is a law enforcement officer or such. For this reason, among others, I am trying to get together enough money to move across the Potomac to nearby Virginia, where one does not even need a permit to openly display a gun. The idea is comforting. It's close enough so that I wouldn't even have to get a different job, change health insurance carriers, or take my children an inconvenient distance away from their father. But it is one of the most expensive real estate markets in America, so it will take some doing.
I noticed they tend to get their briefs in a bunch when the word "Feminist" is used. I believe most see us as bra burning, men hating lesbians who want to control men. All we want is to be treated as equals, that's it, equals. Why in 2004 are women still having to fight for equality?
The leading feminist today are cowards sitting in their ivory towers. They don't care about half the planets population living under the whip. As long as their house is nice and tidy(their idea of American women) they are content. Why rock the boat and lose the money and prestige they have. They got theirs....let the rest of the women of the world get theirs.
Why should I agree or disagree with the second amendment simply because I'm a woman. Men are not challenged in such a way concerning the second amendment.
You're right, the word "Feminism" has taken on a leftist connotation. It has been usurped in the same manner the democratic party has been usurped. They left are turning everything into a dirty word.
I shall have to think ....no I won't. I will stay with the word feminism, and if they have a problem with it, then they can challenge me.
Sort of like liberal. In the classic sense I am a liberal in the same way that in a classic sense I am a feminist.
I do not however use those words to describe myself because then I have to spend hours explaining what I mean. Currently feminist often equals hypocrite who will support any kind of slime as long as the slime also supports infanticide.
It may not be fair but looking at the actions of NOW the description is sadly justified.
actually, he was putting 99% of feminists into a category.
for him to have done what you are claiming he would have to have said the following:
1) all women are feminists
2) all feminists are against guns
3) all feminists are weak
And from what I saw, he said none of those things.
They are so easy to spot. Nothing hurts so much, so deeply and scares so badly as discrimination against you because you're a woman.
I know what you're saying, but I have a feeling the statistics of women killed by their previously violent husband or boyfriend, would suggest that most didn't leave town.
You sound well armed. I wish you the very best.
Good luck on finding the right place in Virginia. If you have not done so already, you might wish to read about the CCW situation in Maryland on Packing.org It is a good site that I recommend to all of my students.
"...getting out of house and out of state was the smartest thing I did"
People seem to forget that not all victims of violence are attacked in their homes. Most people have to go to the store and to work, and many women are 'caught' outside the safety of their homes. That's why re-locating improves the odds.
