Good Grief..........

I was fully aware that homeschoolers had to achieve certain curicular levels, but what you are telling us is utterly ridiculous.

I'm dumbfounded.

However, I totally understand your point about the zealots. I know that annyokie and I have both been targets of them - they are of the mind set that ANYONE can homeschool. It's just not true.

I agree with you - it is those people, and I'm sorry to say, the churches pushing their congregations, that are going to totally defeat the purpose of homeschooling. And that is something I do NOT want to see.

I know I can get a bit overbearing on the anti-public school threads because God, and Christmas, Christ, and Easter are not forbidden things in my daughter's school. Being Christian(of whatever denomination) is not ignored - it may not be pushed, but it is not ignored.

I do not like seeing or hearing that homeschoolers are getting so much grief - it's just another deterrant to those who wish to do it.

I'm a bit angry, so I will end this post now.

Well Gabz, this is what I try to get at when I talk to the zealots "who do not get it". They may live in a state where they are left alone, and they don't have to worry about intrusions on their life.

I spend a lot of time helping new homeschoolers in Harlan County, KY. Homeschoolers are getting beat to a pulp, and walking in blindly can be overwhelming to them if they are not aware of that county's superintendents tactics.

This county in particular, is not a wealthy county. The School District is trying its best to grab every penny they would receive from each child, if in the public school. And since it is a lower income county, many of these children would earn the school additional financial aid as well as the almost $6,000-$7,000 per child/per year.

The Superintendent of this school district tries dirty tricks like asking parents to come in to have him review their curricula (not a practice in our state), sending out truancy officers, and sicking social workers on families.

So, my first advice to these families is to get insured by HSLDA, which will protect them and show up in court for them if need be. And never ever let anyone violate your 4th amendment rights. Once they are in your door, you cannot get them out.

The statistics of cases that are brought on by states each month are absolutely amazing. I'll have to see if I can find last month's stats to give you an idea of what a lot of these zealots are failing to think about.
