"Flight of the Phoenix" remake -- looks like it's in trouble

This film -- a remake of the 1965 classic with James Stewart, Richard Attenborough, Hardy Krueger, etc., etc. -- was set to release before Halloween with no promotion. Then Thanksgiving. Now Christmas. Still no promotion. Aside from the hopelessness of remaking a matchless film, looks like even the studio is geting cold feet. The trailer looks like a bad rock video. Characters have been "updated for relevancy."
Expect this one to go direct ---> video.

DDD's prices are amazing; I've been using them for several years for over 200 DVDs. They've never screwed up an order, it's always new product, shipping is included and no sales tax.
For instance "Standing in the Shadows of Motown", maybe the best music documentary ever - two DVDs with hours of phenomenal stuff . . . . $5.99, brand new, including shipping. I've bought about 8 copies so far to give away; people need to see this film.
These guys are amazing; hope the golden goose survives. They also run DeepDiscountCD.com for music. CDs are a real racket; many DVD movies are cheaper than most CDs.

The original is a classic. The survivors build a plane out of spare parts and fly back to a oasis. If you like man vs nature stories, its a watchable yarn.

If you think this movie looks bad, wait until next year when the remake of The Longest Yard comes out. Starring Adam Sandler. (that is almost criminal).

But I saw a picture in some model airplane magazine (early 60s) of a whisk broom with a shortened handle with a Fox 15 strapped on the handle and some rudimentary wings and a yoke/elevator system hooked up to a u control. Given enough power, you can make ANYTHING fly!
(I wonder what the Reynolds Number of a whisk broom is...)

Oh... almost forgot. The remake also changes the plot line to make it about an evil oil company Have you seen the remake of "Cheaper by The Dozen?" Clifton Webb must be spinning in his grave. The only thing these two movies share is the title and a big family,

Or the remake of Willy Wonka with Johnny Depp. I'm sorry, but Gene Wilder was pure genius in that movie.

One thing no one has mentioned. Remember in the original a couple of the guys were killed by Arab nomads...
The "new" bad guys are described as "Chinese Bedouin"

Yep, "Sands of the Kalahari" was a good film too.
Susanna York's ample bosom was quite the treat for a horny teenager...LOL!
Now, to revive this thread...has anyone seen the FOTP remake? What did you think? Is it really that bad?

I have to admit, I like "Happy Gilmore" :-)
I don't live anywhere near a movie theater so I'm wondering if FOTP is worth at least matinee price the next time I go into town. Provided it is still playing, of course.

I liked "Frequency"...how did it do?According to IMDB, $44,000,000. Not so hot.
"Flight of the Phoenix" is now at $10,000,000 after two weeks, so that's bomb city as usual for him.
I want his agent!
