Michigan Coach Carr complains about security at Ohio Stadium

ANN ARBOR - Ohio State's athletic department took another hit yesterday. Michigan coach Lloyd Carr, whose Wolverines were upset by the Buckeyes 37-21 Saturday in Columbus, launched an all-out blitz at Ohio State officials. Carr criticized the Buckeyes' brass for making the Wolverines wait outside Ohio Stadium before the game Saturday while police and police dogs searched the bags of every player and coach. And he questioned the credibility of Ohio State's athletic department, which already has its hands full with Maurice Clarett's recent allegations and NCAA investigators. Carr said the unusual pre-game search, which lasted between 10 and 15 minutes, caught him totally off-guard. "I found it extremely disrespectful at best," he said. "Had they had the consideration to notify us before we got to the stadium that they were going to do something like that. ... Now, after it was over, their media relations guy [Steve Snapp] made the statement that this was done to all the other schools that played this year. "My question is, first of all, 'Did they do it to coach [Jim] Tressel and the Ohio State team?' My guess is, 'Absolutely not.' "I think, at worst, it was a violation of our individual rights. In my 27 years in this con ference, I've never seen anything like it. I think it is just something that is absolutely inexcusable." Snapp told The Blade in Sunday's editions that the bags of all visiting teams are inspected as they enter the stadium, as are the bags of Ohio State players, because the U.S. Homeland Security Depart ment has identified Ohio Stadium as one of the top 10 terrorist targets in the country.

Is this an actual security check that Ohio State has used before???? Or was this a "trick" by Ohio State in this rivalry of teams that downright hate eachother.

No snacks or drinks can be brought into the stadium.

Carr says that a couple of other teams have told him they did not have to go through any such security check. OSU says they do this with all visiting teams.

I can understand why the OSU bigwigs think extra security might be needed, what with the intesnity of the rivalry between the two teams. Better safe than sorry. I fully expect "retaliatory" checks from Michigan when OSU visits Ann Arbor next year.

Coach Carr is really changing the subject so that his fan base talks about something other than his play calling which handed wins to both Ohio State and Notre Dame this year. But, those guys get to go to Pasadena anywhoo.
