Newbie with some Questions for Vets

Posted on 11/19/2004 1:49:07 PM PST by BullDawg28

Hey fellow Free Republic-ans,

I'm still new here, been around about 3 weeks now. I've been learning the ropes, with "ping" and "bump" and so forth. I'm an Net vet, but always been more of the news scouring type than the 'net community/message board type. Some of ya'll have been helping me along the way, but I had some general questions. Someone sent me a link to the lexicon a while back when I asked about pinging, but I didn't bookmark it and I can't find it from surfing. If it's privileged to Vets or something, then I'll wait patiently hehehe..

Anyways, I suppose my questions are how you can add a tagline to your name when posting, what the benchmarks for posting are (i.e. privileges and so forth), and everyone's preferred format. I stick to the Latest News board, but I was wondering if there's others that tend to be more in-depth. I was looking for some good ol' policy "debates" (I use the term loosely because I know we all substantively agree) and so-forth.

Any and all help is appreciated...

If there is a better place for this to go, just let me know...I knew it didn't belong in Latest News, so I figured general chat was adequate.

You were right to post in general/Chat. Also the tagline can be added when you post a reply you will say a box that says tagline - just type what you want in that box.

"(I use the term loosely because I know we all substantively agree)"

Yep - that makes it clear you haven't been here very long.

Well, I say substantively in that I'm sure we won't see any esteemed members whining about Kerry not having won ... it's safe to say we're all on the right, at the least...

Eh - just jump in with both feet.... We we give you a hard time, it's only because we love to.

You can add a tag line to your name in the 'post reply' area.... right below the reply text box.

Yes. Though you won't find much agreement on what it means to be on the right.

At the top of the screen, on the second line, at the right, you will see a link: "Threads | Messages"

Click on Messages, this will show, at the top, the most recent message recorded in this forum.

FReepers use this to find active threads, especially older ones. BUMP or BTTT (Back to the top) means put this message to the top of this list. In other words, "I think this thread deserves more attention".

Hey, Dolly, Tonk!

That was the first thing to cross my mind as well...a military vet with a question. There's just no way I can avoid those threads.

This one turns out to be an Internet Vet.

Ah, well...
