I guess by being....spacey? watch a lot of television, you know, like Lost in Space and Star Trek (not mocking the programs as I enjoy them also)? spending time online in chat rooms on UFO's? attending liberal university professors "symposiums" on abductions? I could go on and on...

A lot of us are hobby-iest.

The real experts have given up decades of the bulk of their available time--often at great cost to themselves and families--to study the issues and topics involved.
