Word For The Day, Thursday, November 18, 2004
Thursday, November 18, 2004 | slip 18

Posted on 11/18/2004 4:59:19 AM PST by Slip18

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

New WFTD:

Solipsism– noun

This word is pronounced “soe lip sizan”

Etymology: Latin: Solus=alone;+ispe=self;+ism

1) Any of various extreme versions of subjective idealism: as A (1) an epistemological theory that the self can know nothing but his own modifications and states (2) Solipsism of the present moment : an epistemological theory that the self knows to the exclusion of future and past states. B (1) A metaphysical theory that all real entities are modifications and states of the self: EGOISM
2) The adoption of an epistemological solipsism as a presence for a general metaphysical or an epistemological theory or as a scientific hypotheses.
3) Extreme indulgence of and concern with the self at the expense of social relationships especially as expressed in a failure of artistic communication.

Solipsist = noun
solipsistic=adjective.

You were divided into three because you had three sentences. Just think of a pie or something like that.

You know I meant the "pie" with an "e" on the end, didn't you? Otherwise, I'll be going around in circles.

Where's the subbie's Scotch to bring your grade up?

I used to read him, but a few years ago, one of his books really scared me so I ran away..can't remember which it was. I'm reading Brad Meltzer right now.

I absolutely cannot watch scary movies. I actually get panic attacks and leave the theater. But I can read scary books. Doesn't make sense, but that's me.

I forgot to use the WFTD: Tomorrow Cyber and I are going on a company picnic, so I'll have to were solipstic.

Xs, do I get an A for that one?

For a Presidential Library, doesn't it look a tad bit mobile homey?

Sweets for the sweet. They should put a Hillary Museum next to it--a Winnebago with a huge caboose. And fat ankles.

You're as bad as I am.

A lot of good folks live in mobile homes, but a Presidential Museum that looks like one?

My fave Presidential Museum is that of President Richard M. Nixon. It's homey, but there are extra buildings for all of the memorabilia.

Cyber told me last night that Monica's dress was in the Smithsonian. I asked him if it had at least been dry cleaned. He told me it hadn't. Ewwwwwwwwww.

I don't like scary movies at all unless they are very poorly acted. Then they crack me up.

When Bill Clinton opens his Lie-brary I think the most obvious display will be the solipsism display surrounding his impeachment, disbarment, and fines which he calls the 'right-wing conspiracy' and highlights of his 8 years in office........I would list them but can not think of any.

I thought of one: He helped elect George Bush President.

Nice color from Lancome. I actually still have makeup from Lancome. In fact, everything I have makeupwise is from Lancome. I have more unopened "gift sets" than I know what to do with. LOL!

Pink seems to be in. I might have to wear a pink sweater. I'll be playing volleyball. There go the knuckles again . . .

A++++ for you, 1sV. Too bad Clinton had the heart surgery. President Bush would have won by a landslide!
