Question about firewall rules for DLink 614+ router
self

Posted on 11/15/2004 6:23:51 PM PST by calvin sun

I have a firewall rule on this router that denies access to port 5190 (AOL Instant Messenger). However, I have noticed that if someone already is running AIM (because the rule is disabled), that they can CONTINUE to do so EVEN AFTER I re-enable the rule. However, any new attempts to start AIM are unsuccessful if the rule is in place.

Am I correct that pre-existing sessions continue to run? Thanks.

Do you have a default rule for established connections? It sounds as if you do and the default rule is ALLOW or ACCEPT.
