Hi, indiana_gop:
I grew up watching the original B&W "Combat!" with Vic Morrow and Rick Jason. IMO, the best written, cast and acted weekly series about WWII in Europe. So my choices of films may be a bit ecclectic.
"They Were Expendable"
"Hell Is For Heroes"
"Twelve O'Clock High"
"Run Silent, Run Deep"
"Objective: Burma!"
"Sahara"
"The Longest Day"
"The Great Escape"
Whenever possible, WWII films should be in B&W. The first thrity minutes of "Saving Pvt. Ryan" are awesome. Speilberg did a fantastic job.
Though once off the beach, the film is no more than two linked episodes of "Combat!".
Jack.
