Story in Tampa Newspaper

Will we still be the Country of choice and still be America if we continue to make the changes forced on us by the people from other countries that came to live in America because it is the Country of Choice?????? Think about it . .

All I have to say is, when will they do something about MY RIGHTS? I celebrate Christmas, but because it isn't celebrated by everyone, we can no longer say Merry Christmas. Now it has to be Season's Greetings. It's not Christmas vacation, it's Winter Break. Isn't it amazing how this winter break ALWAYS occurs over the Christmas holiday? We've gone so far the other way, bent over backwards to not offend anyone, that I am now being offended. But it seems that no one has a problem with that. This says it all!

This is an editorial written by an American citizen, published in a Tampa newspaper He did quite a job; didn't he? Read on, please!

IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct! " crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!

"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan.. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.

If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so! But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE. It is Time for America to Speak up If you agree -- pass this along; if you don't agree -- delete it!

I've never looked on the immigrant population as being a problem (as described here). There is a long history of them adapting quite rapidly and willingly to our culture. Rather, it's the people at this end who confuse them and hold them back from assimilating.

If I hear one more holding message making me - the American - press a button for help, while the illegal just sits on the line for help - I swear I'll break the phone.

If I have to walk up to another ATM that has the welcome screen in Spanish, here in America, I'll break that thing.

I am sooo fed up with the pandering we are performing on a daily basis in the name of political correctness - for illegals. My wife, an RNC in the local hospital's Labor & Delivery center has to deliver at least one illegal's kid PER DAY ( and this is a very small hospital ).

Brother and sister, fellow Americans, we MUST take out country back. Both my wife's and my grandparents came to the country -- LEGALLY -- in the 1920's. They learned English and would NOT allow Italian, or Russian spoken at home. Their reasoning - we're in America. Americans speak English. To survive and prosper, WE have to speak English.

It is way past time to make English the Official language of America.

Just read it. Seems one-sided, but nevertheless, of interest.

I don't think the problem lies so much with the immigrants and legal/illegal immigration, per se. I've been to third world countries and they are a rather industrious people who mostly live within their laws. Rather, it an offshoot of our problems here at home, largely, of our inner-cities.

I live outside of Chicago, and our local immigrants are extremely hard working and law-abiding. What the article primarily describes are inner-city problems, no doubt caused by a massive breakdown of law enforcement and a poisonous environment, that rubs off on some immigrants.

I guess what I'm saying is that immigration in the "red counties" is for the most part, contributing, while that in the "blue counties" is, well, I'm not all that certain what goes on there 'cause I stay the hell out of those areas.

It depends on where you live and the immigrants you happen to run into --- many do adapt and assimilate --- Polish immigrants for example all seem eager to learn English and you often hear them with accents but speaking English. Same with immigrants from India and S. American countries like Argentina, Peru.

It's not true though with many from Mexico and Guatemala --- they aren't learning English -- it's common to find them living here 20-30 years never learning more than 1 or 2 words in English. They aren't teaching their US born children English --- which is why you see Head Start programs and schools with Spanish classrooms.

It's the sheer numbers in the case of Mexicans...here in greater Nashville, they now outnumber blacks.

I have no desire to see my country become a latin nation unless they are all Miss Universe contestants.

I think in our society, more than even in theirs, you have to toe the line our you won't get ahead. How many rich Hispanics have you met who didn't assimilate into our culture?

Interestingly, I worked on a project in Guatemala over the course of several years, and they absolutely went out of their way there to accommodate me as a non-Spanish speaking person. I wouldn't ever expect the same behavior out of us if the tables were turned.

One more thing, and I'm not being snide. How much English do you really need to know to mow my lawn?

I used to landscape to get through college, and ran crews of Mexicans. They were the hardest working people imaginable, and I basically grunted and groaned instructions to them. I'm sure that today, if they are still illegal and have families here, that their kids have learned English about as good as my neighbor's kids have.

Old dogs like me will never reach the MTV generation...they are like one big Coke commercial...with a completely different perspective. We owe it to the world to make Anglos (a generic term) a minority here to their way of thinking...among many who call themselves conservative and a lot of them are women.

Why?....guilt I guess...ingrained in folks from early on.

I get shame....but I think guilt is overrated....and narcissistic.
