Need Book Recommendations for my Daughter

"Anthem" by Ayn Rand is one of my favorites and often overlooked even by Rand lovers. It's a short tale of collectivism and how it destroys the human spirit. A much easier read than Atlas Shrugged or The Fountainhead. Although I also read Atlas Shrugged when I was 16. It made me a conservative.

Another good one, if you can find it, is "The Way The World Works" by Jude Wanniski. It's the book that first put the "Laffer Curve" in print, showing the diminishing returns of high marginal tax rates.

"Radical Chic" by Tom Wolfe is also excellent, if you can find it. A total skewering of the liberal New York elite.

I'm 14 so I can relate. I have gotten a lot of talking points from Hannity's books. I highly recommend them.

This is the most ignored portion of any important document in US history. Very few understand (including many Republicans) that God endows men (us) with these rights (all rights come from God alone), they are not granted by any government. And to protect our God-given rights, men (we) institute governments. And when government abuses powers (not rights) we consented to grant the government, we have the right (given to us by God) to alter or abolish that government.

I read "Anthem" when I was about 13. I was working at a concession stand with the mother of one of my classmates and she told me the three books that I must read: "Anthony Adverse", "Look Homeward Angel" and "Anthem". Without a doubt Anthem had the greatest effect on me.

The unfortunate thing is that people like us are the only ones reading them! I remember having to memorize the preambles to the Constitution, Declaration of Independence and the entire Gettysburg Address in third or fourth grade (and that was less than 30 years ago). Now the leftists go to court to take George Washington out of the textbooks and replace him with Marx and Darwin.

I had a teacher in my junior year in high school that made me MEMORIZE parts of the Constitution. This was in the sixties. Can you imagine that today?
