Somebody down the road has at least two peacocks to go with his chickens, turkeys, goats, and visiting geese. They like to walk down the sidewalk and sit on top of cars. As far as I know, nobody seems to care.
I think they're beautiful birds.
And they're VERY interesting to study, as far as their little "society" goes. Of course the pecking order is there, but beyond that, there are times that the two males run the hens ragged, chasing them and grabbing at them. The whole cage sometimes looks like those videos from Afghanistan where the Taliban men chase the women around and swat at them with sticks. It doesn't happen often, but it's dramatic when it does.
Oh, and they make a lot more sounds than just that "cry for help." Very complex language.
