I seriously overheard the following conversation on election day:
Girl 1: Who did you vote for? Girl 2: I voted for Bush Girl 1: You voted for Bush!? Do you want to get drafted?!
On election day, a customer in my store remarked that she voted for Kerry because she has two sons & doesn't want the draft. I set her straight on that!
Not surprising...I'm sure she heard that gem of info from P.Diddy or Cameron Diaz or MTV. Women aren't eligible for the draft even if there was one, are they? It concerns me how so many younger people are just devoid of common sense.
I was poll checking, and while I sat there tagging names on my PDA I was subjected to the most annoying 20-minute conversation between two people waiting outside for family members, about how it's time for a change because Bush had done nothing to get them jobs.
I and my homies worked this little jerk over pretty well, by the way. I doubt he'll ever try it again.
I've heard more people bring up the inevitable draft now that Bush is re-elected.
Of course, Air America talk show hosts are telling their listeners that no matter what the public line, the draft is a sure thing in 2005.
My 18 year old son (who voted for Bush) got up Wed. morning and ask me who won - I told him President Bush and he said "good ,now there won't be a draft". Prior to the election he would yell at the TV when Kerry came on, asking him how he was going to increase the size of the military without a draft!!
Gotta love this kid!
Our township supervisor told me he crossed party lines to vote for the president. In return I crossed party lines to vote for the supervisor.
He's a democrat who didn't want to outsource our police department to the county and was instrumental in getting the local shooting range opened.
Only the truly ignorant believed the whole draft scare. I go to technical school. I'm old enough to be the mother of every other student in my classes. In one class, all the males voted for Bush, all the females voted for Kerry with the exception of myself and the teacher. The guys had great, well-informed reasons for voting for Bush. The gals cited the draft, Fahrenheit 911, and the 'fact' that Bush 'stole' the election in 2000 for voting for Kerry.
