The really pathetic aspect of this is that it took nearly five months to generate the same response as a moderately popular ZOT thread.

I need to do more self-promotion!

Or ping people more often.

Just kidding.

Thank you. Your screen name has tormented me for months. Finally, the mystery is solved and I'll be able to sleep peacefully tonight. ;-)

Yes, but if he had, I wouldn't have spent all of the time that I have on fruitless Google searches. He knows how to make himself memorable.

Check out comments 121 and 166.

I'm not sure how edifying reading those posts will be, but they should clear things up somewhat.

Hopefully.

Maybe.

"Well, the derivation of this screen name is kind of esoteric, so I'm not surprised that it threw some people for a loop. If you've ever read the novel 'Everything Is Illuminating' you'd instantly recognize this handle as trading on one of that novel's most uttered lines. One that is repeated by its protagonist-seemingly-ad infinitum."

Ah, that explains it. I don't read fiction. ;')

Believe it or not, it's actually a fictionalized account of something that really happened during the Holocaust/WWII.

Or, to be more accurate, many things that happened during that historical epoch.

I don't know if you could compare it to "Bel Canto," which was based upon a specific incident, but it does flesh out a lot of generic areas relating to contemporary Eastern European history. At least, that part of it which dovetailed with the Nazi occupation.
