Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A new road or a secret gate...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

We saw a great pawn and gun shop in Shelton last week when we were there.... I don't know if it was the big MACK'S PAWN & GUN sign, or the bars on the window, or just the whole feel of the place, but I wished I had a camera.

Speakin' of pawnshops...
We need to find Jr. some costume pieces for the show.
He needs a "Fonzie type" leather jacket for the 50s. We're not going to get away by buying old jeans. He'll have to have a new pair of Levis that actually fit in the waist.
Then he needs some thuggish looking 70s disco stuff. He and his gang murder a street preacher.
Fortunately they are redeemed before the curtain...

Seems like the practical thing to do! Why wear home something dirty?
Hey - I was once in a laundromat in Ellensburg, and the whole Olympic Ski team came through on their way somewhere else, stripped down to some shorts and washed their snow gear.
It ain't ~all~ bad, them laundromats.

For some reason I don't associate "thug" with "disco".

Yeah our apartment in DC had less than optimal laundry facilities. So the wife and I would go to an all night laundromat. I'd wash the clothes whilst she went to the all night grocery store. We did that for almost three years...until Jr. came along.

It had the dark seedy feel of a place where the guy would buy guns with the serial numbers filed off, or file them off for you, no questions asked. ;~D

For some reason I don't associate "thug" with "disco". Yeah, I know. It's just that era. He won't be the leisure suit type. More the ratty jeans and tie dye crowd. Having no experience in that area makes it a bit difficult...

When you're a jet you're a jet all the way from your first cigarette to your last dying day.

I would try a second hand store like Goodwill or Value Village for that leather jacket.

Yeah, that's what we're going to do. My b-i-l has his Dad's 70ish Harley Davidson leather jacket. But it's not really what he needs for the 70s, and I wouldn't want to run the risk of it being messed up or stolen (we've had "guests" visit the dressing rooms during performances).
The jacket will be easier than the 70s stuff. But we just got those instructions last night.
I'm excited about the show. I think the story line and the music are the best we've done.

Sounds like a good idea. The thrift store where I do a lot of my clothing shopping has both recent things and...clothes of a certain age. ;-) Anyone want a plaid leisure suit?
It might not be '50s, but he could surely find something that would look about right.

Actually, one of the other guys could use the leisure suit.
Jr. just has to look more streetworthy for that scene. The others are full Saturday Night Live polyester.
