Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A new road or a secret gate...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

That's the reason I could never watch THE MOVIE on TV. Just wouldn't have the patience.
To: Sam Cree
Hadn't thought about Robert Service in some time, thanks for the reminder.

How about William Joseph Stillwell Gulch; a common given name, a Confederate general, and a common southern geographical surname; and his buds call him "Billy Joe".
Invented entirely, of course.

Of course, it just occurred to me, Stillwell might have been Union. That'd put some egg on the ol' face...
Now I hve to look it up...

Two hours and they're only at the Council of Elrond.
Part II airs tomorrow night.

I wuz just thinking back to my Southern customers when I was in a prior job working with Independent Telcos in Texas and Louisiana.
At the time, I cracked up often at how many customers I had that went by Billy and Bobby and Jimmy. Grown men in their fifties and it made me chuckle. They were my favorites though... Cajun customer mailed me a blackened redfish as a present when I said I'd never had it. ;~D

Man, are you actually better, Corin? After all this time? Some days I think so Sam. Then it all comes back.

Two hours and they're only at the Council of Elrond. Good grief. At that rate Elrond'll be so "backed up" he'll dang near explode...

Yeah, Fellowship will always be the sentimental favorite.
But I think cinematically, ROTK was the best...
