The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

hehehehe....

You're probably right!

It's been a wee bit stressful lately. Both kids got the stomach flu, a dear friend and co-worker is going through some pretty serious stuff and work has been an absolute madhouse with year-end processes and procedures.

Did you guys get down to Black Point on Saturday and have a nice time, Ruthy?

Sorry to have missed it.

Very excited, kids coming home tonight.

I don't use preview often enough...I automatically check that little box unless I'm really aware of what I'm doing.

A few years ago I fell heir to the stainles "silverware" my family used from my infancy to the day my mom decreed the "Sunday" set was for everyday use. It was originally a service for eight, but some of each of the four main utensils, and the butterknife, had gone missing. I've been supplementing it up to six complete place settings by adding a vey mismatched GI messhall fork to the inventory.

A couple days ago I found this.

This

is the pattern: with what I have ordered, I believe I will have a complete set.

It occurs to me that much of my personal collecting has to do with recovery and restoration of what my family has lost or accidentally destroyed over the years. I wonder if that means anything.

Dunno, but as evidenced by my search for that LP, we all do it!

In my case, I'm the oldest of eight...so the things that I remember from my childhood were pretty much all destroyed by the time I grew up. Most of them aren't things I miss, but there are some recordings or books that I would love to have again, and they're hard to find.

Yes, we'd like to come next time, if chance allows.
Yep, kids home for Thanksgiving, got a turkey in the smoker as we speak, have to check on it in a minute.

Sounds delicious!

I hope you can make it to Black Point next time. The next gig is scheduled for Dec 11th, but I don't know if I can make it due to babysitting conflicts.

Speaking of babysitting, I've got to get some rest and Alyson is still up due to a very late nap.

Nighty night Hobbit Holers!
