Evening Sam; enjoyed the land line visit yesterday tremendously. Had a buddy over this AM and we did a bit a work on one of his staves, a hickory board bow. Dug around a bit and found my farrier rasp. You interested in borrowing it? Also got an extra scraper I could include. I could mail it to you this week.

Hitting the lumber yard tomorrow, for flat grain ash!

Suzi,

Weren't you happily shocked, when watching "Master and Commander," that the tune, "Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis came on?!!

I was very pleased by that.

I'm just not feeling like writing tonight, either. I did a bunch earlier, so I'm OK. Not going to finish early like I'd hoped to, but I'll finish.

I wish I wasn't so sensitive about this. I was writing out at the house, and though I didn't show the bothers any of what I'm doing, I did mention some of what it's about. And there was much criticism of my even attempting any such thing. Of course.

This is why in the past I've really not mentioned any of my attempts to them.

*sigh*

I'm gonna watch a movie tonight instead, I think. And tomorrow I'll get back to it. It's just a writing exercise, and that's what I gotta keep reminding myself. This isn't a story that matters. I'll write better things - things worth sharing - someday. And I'll never ever impress any family members no matter how good I am. I could be a Jane Austen or a Tolkien, for that matter...and they'd still say "you shouldn't attempt to write men at all - they're totally stupid and wrong" and "you use language no one uses, and what's with all the stupid names? Duh!"

Grr.

I assume by the time I'm done with the movie, you guys will have spammed. A lot.

I'm so pessimistic tonight...

Rosie - ignore them. This is not constructive criticism. Families almost never give constructive criticism, it's "oh, how lovely, dear", or "You suck!" (Mostly depends on whether it's parents or sibs giving the crit)

Your writing does not suck. Your writing is not at Jane Austen level either, but every word you write improves your skills. And when it comes down to it, what the heck do they know, anyway? Do any of them write 50k words in November? I don't think so! So they have no right to talk at all.

I'm not writing tonight, either. Am at the daily count, but that's it. I'm just uninspired.

Heh...ain't that the truth.

Except in my family it's just "you suck", period. Mom woulda said I was doing great, and that was worse in some ways, because sometimes I really wish I had someone who'd tell me what ISN'T lousy or what IS requiring change.

I'm gonna go watch "My Big Fat Greek Wedding", which I still haven't seen yet - I got it from the library. I've heard mixed reviews, but it'll at least be diversion. Hopefully it doesn't leave me more depressed...heh...

Well, I like that movie, so I hope you enjoy it.

What you need is a beta-reader, someone who has no other interest in you except helping you improve your writing. Another writer, who knows what you're going through; and a decent human being who doesn't like just being annoying. We've established that your family is utterly useless. Maybe someone you know distantly through work or something?

Speaking as an avid reader, I say that Rosie's writing is very very good. Wish you'd write more, Rosie

Same goes for all the HHD writers.
