I am not certain what is happening or what happened over the weekend, but morale has dipped far further than I have seen it throughout the entirity of this campaign.
I don't know why most of the weekend polls including Gallup show a Kerry push. But there is one very ugly possibility. I was certain that the OBL tape would give president Bush a huge push going into Tuesday because I assumed that the American people are made of sterner stuff than the Spanish. But, perhaps this is untrue? Perhaps 30-40 years of therapeutic counseling rather than moral instruction has turned this nation into a large group of sniveling appeasers? I hope not. I think not. But maybe. Maybe the OBL tape has hurt the president because the American people no longer possess the moral fortitude to face down evil?
No, I don't think you are really correct. OBL did not announce any direct threat on the tape. I think that, if the tape caused any marginal movement to Kerry, it was because the tape's very existence shows that OBL is still alive and kickin', and that visual is a negative for W.

Today, however, I will fearlessly predict that somebody will be declared "the winner" tomorrow night. I really hope it's Bush. But all of these entrail readings don't mean a damned thing. There's no point in getting worked up.
Just trying to understand what's going on with the polls. No panic at all. If you wish to panic, be my guest. I'm just suggesting a theory.

Look at the bright side:

The OBL tape has had no effect (as it should be). Those who were for Bush are still for him, and those who are against Bush are still against them. (There are few who are really for Kerry.)
Some of the polling data show Bush down simply because they were taken over the weekend, but at this point all polls are bunk. Most have been within or just barely on the margins of error which means that essentially the candidates are tied. But there is more positive enthusiasm for Bush than for Kerry. We simply need to get out and vote our convictions and lead the President to victory!
And you're doing your part to spread it and fan the flames.

Well I don't live in a dhimmi state, I live in a red state. No one in Georgia is going to vote for Kerry because of UBL. Bring it, o lion of the moon god!

If so the only consolation will be that the terrorists will strike large cities. Of course, I'm not particularly looking forward to picking out body parts of people who caused this by their cowardly choices.
