Only 2+ days to go my Metal/Freeper brethren ... here's some Iced Earth to get us stoked ... "Declaration Day" and the awesome Gettysburg Trilogy ...
Rock hard and often people!
And please post your own arse kicking AMERICAN METAL!!!!
When The Eagle Cries,Valley Forge, and the Gettysburg Saga is great
PING!!!!!!!!
Wow, I didn't realize patriotic metal was a genre that existed. What's the gist of their lyrics?
"Gettysburg" prompted Ms. Buzzcut and I to visit that town this past Memorial Day weekend ... driving through the park and playing the trilogy is fricking amazing ... Memorial Day morning we were at the High Water Mark in the drizzle and cold and IE was playing and you could see those guys coming across the field in the mist ... AWESOME ... the last full measure of devotion ... let's not let these guys down Tuesday!
Looking for them online ...
I like matt barlow better than ripper owens on vocals but ripper owens does a hell of job
john schaffers guitar work is awesome
"When the Eagle Cries" kicks ass.
Pay particular attention to "Declaration Day", "When The Eagle Cries", "Greenface" (written about Special Ops guys), "The Reckoning" (about revenge for 9/11), "Valley Forge" and the spectacular Gettysburg Trilogy (last three somgs).
It's not a genre really. There are just some songs that are like that.
9/11 had a profound effect on the main members of Iced Earth, prompting the former lead singer to quit last year to pursue a career in Criminal Justice so he could work for Homeland Security.
I see -- they've written some songs that might been seen as patriotic, but they don't really specialize in patriotic themes.
Right, like a lot of bands, they explore some "dark" themes but they don't endorse the darkness ... but we all, as conservatives, know it exists and is not pleasant!
This most recent album is particluarly pro-American (the "star spangled banner" is on it twice in different forms!) -- so much so that it peeved a lot of European reviewers. To which band founder Jon Schaffer (sp.?) basically said "screw you"!
Star Spangled Banner: nuff said lol
Declaration Day: About the revolution against the british, basically talking about having enough and realizing freedom comes at a price
When The Eagle Cries: The Events of 9-11 is covered here, really goes into depth about how we will not just sit back and take it
The Reckoning: Revolutionary War,saying the british have "Gone too far this time"
Green Face: A Song About the SEALS
Atilla: A song about the battle Between The Romans And Germania(The Huns)
Hallow Man: this song made it on the album as a left over from "Something Wicked This Way Comes"
Red Baron/Blue Max: The Song Naturally,About the red baron
Valley Forge: "Would He Look At Us Now in anger and disgust" it talks about getting the victory at valley forge (Thats what happened right?)
Waterloo: Talks about Napoleon VS the British
THE GETTYSBURG SAGA
Day 1: The Devil To Pay: The events of the first day of battle, this day the Union has a trouble with the CSA Army
Day 2: Hold At All Costs: The Sub story is between 2 generals on opposing sides being good friends, each knowing this day they fight,Also the Union holds the line and the CSA cannot advance
Day 3: High Water Mark: General lee comes up with the famous "picketts charge" general longstreet says this attack will not work, general lee replies saying trust in my plan, the battle ensues, the CSA make the charge but the union holds,General Lee surrenders, this day he says he's responisble for the huge losses on his side
think that covers it lol
As we took the battlefield tour and the Gettysburg Trilogy played in the car, I went back and forth between the lyrics and the tour book and the lyrics are spot on historically!
