Kyuss' "Hurricane" always gets me fired up.

Here's a sample (can't find a link to the whole thing).

Thanks -- some inspiring stuff there. These guys seem to have a genuine appreciation for our history. You wouldn't expect that out of heavy metallers, but it's great to see.

It was almost, and I hate this phrase, a "religious experience" ... I'm one of those who understands the Civil War wasn't as simple as it's often made out to be, that the guys from the South were fighting for their homeland -- back then your STATE was your NATION.

The bravery and sacrifice on both sides is fascinating to study and looking across those fields, most of which look exactly as they did in 1863, is spooky and exhilirating. Makes you appreciate what it took to get us to 2004.

It seems rock and metal groups would be more likely to be patriotic types than folk, new age, and pop music groups.

A little Hatebreed and Sworn Enemy work for me as well (both have 9-11-01 lyrics, themes). Every time I hear of bad news from Iraq (beheading or execution of hostages, killing of our soldiers), I usually throw in some Hatebreed or Sworn Enemy to "calm me down" and channel my rage.

One misconception about us metal types is that we are big drug users. Well, we are big DRINKERS, but most of us never touch a narcotic.

Our basic credo states that we are strong and free and can do what we set our minds to, we can make it on our own and nothing can stand in our way, and that is at least a very un-"liberal" viewpoint. ;)

absolutly, theres a few of us who go with the anti bush thing but alot of us agree on one thing: were lucky to have what we do,and that was given to us by men better than ourselves and we must eternally be grateful,i am,

anyways,i gotta head out,my band is recording a CD (Death Metal) and i gotta be there by 5pm but first i have to go rehearse so we can get our stuff right when we record

PSYCLONE TREAD by Solarized

WE SAIL - THE WINDS OF TIME
IN THESE WORLDS OF SEMI-HEAVEN AND SEMI-HELL
GET DOWN - AND DIG THE RIDE
WE’RE HERE AND THEN WE’RE GONE
WE ARE HERE AND THEN WE’RE GONE

YOU WANNA REACH UP AND TOUCH THE SKY
YOU WANNA JUMP UP AND KICK THE STARS BETWEEN THE EYES
DON’T FALL INTO THE GORGON’S STARE
DON’T LET YOUR ASS GET CAUGHT BENEATH THE PSYCLONE TREAD

as well of the fact we have talent,we work for what we have, nobody gives it to us,thats what makes us better than any pop/punk pop music star, they were given the oppurtunity,we make our own future,

Plus the music itself is more on the "tough" side -- not meant for wimps and the more gay-type disco dancers.

Yep ... most of us are great on our instrument, and we could "sell out" and play what is popular and would sell a ton of records, but to us that would be like prostitution ... a "nuisance" ... hehehehe

Metal music doesn't even try to be politically correct --- so the politically correct wouldn't find it appealing at all. The most liberal music has to be that New Age stuff.
