It is a matter of turn out.
Four years ago 4 days before the election, we were all sure it was over and Dubya had 350 EV's sewed up. And the polls supported that.
Instead the dim turn out was a surprise. The turn out this time is much more unpredictable, but it's gonna be HUGE.
If there is anything you can do to help get us one more voter, then do it. I'm working the polls on Tuesday 6 a.m. til 8 p.m. or whatever time we get out. There will be NO voter fraud at that location, I promise. HELP GET OUT THE VOTE!!(please)

They are aware there is a threat, but they don't feel that cold fear they used to feel right after 9-11. That knife at their throat feeling has gained distance, so while intellectually they may understand there is a threat, emotionally partisanship takes precedence.
Today's airing of the tape jumpstarted their intellect's acknowledgement there is a threat, and intellectually they note their candidate has taken the wrong position so it'll reflect badly on him, but wasn't enough to throw water on the instinctual reaction to view this as a political game.
Notice, even on the right, the main reaction to the tape has been, "Who will this tape help?".
That is not the reaction of people taking the reality of the threat seriously. The natural reaction should be to freeze, search out any detailing that could signal an imminent attack as well as current location, and then retaliate in force.
The natural reaction should be to unify and destroy them. It's possible that will be average Americans reaction, but it wasn't shown today in the punditry or by Kerry. The Dems have politized this war so the natural reaction is now the unnatural, and it is disgraceful.
