ABC NOT Airing AQ Tape because of "Political" reason. Can ABC make these journalistic decisions?

Even after the CIA/FBI has authenticated new AQ tape, why is ABC still waiting to show the public. It is not their job to determine politics...Their job is to tell the whole story, no mater what the implications are...

IMHO I think it could hurt Bush. That's why I'm still
suspicious of its authenticity. Remember, there is a huge
amount of resentment within the CIA against W's apparent
plan to create a security Czar who will control their
operations and, more importantly, their budget. So there
are folks there who would like to see W defeated.

Look at the message - it says the new attack is
punishment for "electing Bush". That happened 4 years ago. Why punishment for that now?

I think the subtle message here is aimed at so-called
Security Moms and others who might be swayed by the threat
of a big attack and what it's really saying is that
if you elect Bush in THIS election, there will be a huge
attack.

I'd like to hear more detail on why they think the tape
is authentic. Whether it's a forgery and a dirty trick
or the real deal, the authors are trying to influence
the election.

What do y'all think?

Besides, the threat is made based on the election of George Bush thus implying that it is George Bush they fear, not John Kerry.

Now, if the shoe were on the other foot and the terrorists said that blood will flow if John Kerry were elected, you can bet your life on it that James Carville would be out there right now ranting and raving about Osama Bin Laden's ENDORSMENT of George W. Bush.

Where are the Republican talkers? Rush? Sean?

OSAMA BIN LADEN IS ENDORSING JOHN KERRY!

You can not rely on soft or cryptic words. Say it so people understand it.

I am fully aware of the standards lacking in the MSM.

This tape should not be political. ABC is making it political because they are witholding it. This is something which affects the lives of every single American. This tape is not a charge made by a political opponent.

ABC is holding false standards here. If it was a tape of a dark, hooded figure claiming he and President Bush have been partners since before 9/11 and President Bush knew full the attacks were coming--ABC might have a case.

But this is a tape of a sworn enemy making threats to the lives of citizens.

A case can be made that we have a right to know what we are dealing with before we cast our ballots. I lean towards that one. Air it, give us time to digest it. And (yes, this one is impossible) air it without comment. No friggin' pundits.

I understand that the CIA/FBI are trying to identify the voice.

It could only help their efforts for millions of Americans to hear the voice on the tape.

By refusing the broadcast the tape, ABC actually may be directly endangering national security!

I didn't do the graphic art.

However, if the LA Slimes blows it re its phoney polls like the one where they predicted Arnold's defeat. We can put another check mark there.

Also, the LA Slimes and its owners the Chi Tribune are under SEC investigation re fraud re the # of subscribers and sales at news stands.

If the CIA/FBI have copies of the tape, they can make them available to any news organization for dissemination. I'm not sure why we haven't seen the tape. It could be political, and probably is on the MSM's part, but the US government also may be keeping it quiet. You also should see Homeland Security raising the Terror Alert level, which has not happened, which indicates they do not view this as an imminent threat. The fact the tape exists has been discussed on Fox News and perhaps other outlets.

From what I understand of the tape .. the terrorists is basically supporting John Kerry by mentioning President Bush and the election

Not really good PR for Kerry ...

How can ABC have a hammer lock on the publication of this tape since it has been authenticated by the CIA/FBI? If the information in these tapes constitute a clear and present danger to the security interest of the United States, why can't the government assert the public's right to view or at least read a transcript of what is being said on the tapes?
Does the 1st Amendment prevent the US government from protecting and informing the public on matters affecting the national security?

ABC has decided that since Al Qaida has joined the Kerry-Edwards campaign, this tape better be held back till next Wednesday. It would be wrong to influence an election.

To: I'm ALL Right!

Whats happening here is that they are waiting for Homeland Security to change the threat level. This gives them cover and at the same time it provides fodder against the President in the form of a "scaring the public for political purposes" argument.

ABC is playing "political chicken" with the lives of Americans.

AQ should realize if they wanted this to air, they should have given the tape to the 'we report, you decide' channel.. Fox! Maybe al Jazeera has a copy they will post.

It would seem to me that since AlQueda would prefer a Kerry victory, the way to help him (Kerry) most would be to destroy a massive number of conservative voters. What American city has the highest percentage of conservative voters? The FBI should be concentrating its efforts in large conservative cities.

If parts of the infamous beheading videos can be shown, and parts of the appeals for withdrawals from Iraq can be shown, then parts of this tape should be shown.

As it is, Drudge, Glenn Beck, and soon Rush and Sean will be talking all about this tape. I'm sure Newsfilter.org probably by noon will put out a call, saying they'll pay for a copy they can digitize on their site (they did so with the beheadings and Paris Hilton tapes). Al-Jazeera may have a copy and air it in full, which would then make it available on the web.
