BBC TV reports GOP votes swindle
flagthefly

Posted on 10/27/2004 8:24:54 AM PDT by flagthefly

Yesterday BBC's Newsnight programme had as its leading story a report about alleged rigging procedures by the GOP with regard to early voters. Two claims: votes by African Americans were said to be falsified after the voting act, to make them into Rep votes. And private investigators were said to be posted in front of voting locations, to scare away impressionable (?) black voters from voting at all. It all looked completely made up, choreographed, and diligently scripted beforehand. Funniest part was when a young black voter was refused at the ballot box, then went in again followed by heavy BBC camera machinery, and then was allowed to vote because of the media accompanying him. I say funny, because I saw through it all. But it would be very sad if many folks would fall for such an atrocious scam. Did any of this reach the USA? Cheers, flaggie.

I frequent a European forum.

There is a German moron on there that almost daily posts
links to some anti-American trash from the BBC or the Guardian.
No wonder so many in Europe hate the US.

"As a result, anything he says, even under the guise of the vaunted BBC, is VERY suspect as far as I'm concerned"

The BBC is not "Vaunted" anymore.
Read my post # 39.
The BBC is now a purveyor of BS and garbage par excellence.

There is a certain, and unfortunate, mindset of some here to assume that a less than positive post from someone with a new account indicates the poster is a troll.

It's wrong, and annoying, but don't let it bother you...and stick around. Open minded Brits are always welcome.

I have to thank you for sticking around. Most people here hate vanities with a passion! Especially from a Newbie. I usually find that if a newbie posts a vanities and stays to take the heat and answer questions they are not trolls and are quickly accepted! Alot of them don't and just disappear into the woodwork! But with this vanity I knew exactly what you were talking about and did a search for my post. Just take this as a learning experience. Most Freepers will be more friendlier with newbies when you post news articles (with a link of course) and then post your opinions following the article. Freepers are really friendly, caring and fun people so don't get the wrong idea. Freepers will protect Free Republic from trolls with a vengence! If you stick around for a bit you will feel right at home so don't go disappearing on us! Stick around! :-)

Good!

We have to make sure all those dead men that the DemocrATS have been registering, get sent to jail if they should somehow miraculously wake up from their graves and attempt to vote. LOL!

Which forum is it? I get a kick out of reading Eurotrash, check out the politics forum on boards.ie. They think latimes, sfgate, and Michael Moore are valid sources of information.

I would suggest you check out my post #4 and read the article from the BBC. He has not made up anything. The BBC has been making it seem like their is voter fraud going on in Florida! He is not a DUer and not a troll!

thanks for explaining AFO!
this clears things up a lot. I was really wondering, you know. And - can anyone tell me what is defined by 'vanity post' here? Is that a personal report without a accompanying article or hyperlink? Or something more narrowly defined?
Cheers, flaggie (in London)

Willowbranch 2875 Park St.

This is my library, two blocks from my house in an historic district, with yard signs running about 50/50 for bush/kerry. I requested to reserve "Unfit for Command" two months ago and they still haven't called me!

This is from the posting rules -

Do keep "vanity" posts to a minimum - Free Republic is primarily a place to discuss news, articles, and editorials. Vanity posts, creations of the poster him or herself, should meet a high standard of quality before one is even considered worthy of posting. Often a relevant current thread or general announcement, catch-all thread is a much better choice for a brief question or comment.

If you have to post a vanity and its important that we hear it I would suggest you post it in Bloggers/Personal. If you need any help posting any kind of article just freepmail me or any freeper and we will help you. I know posting in HTML can be confusing to people who haven't used it.

Riverside/Avondale may have 50/50 yard signs, but it 's more like a university town than a GOP enclave. I really can't imagine voter intimidation at any Jax library. That would be like finding Republican literature at a PBS fundraiser.

Someone in America needs to write a vanity from the Republicans perspective highlighting how patronage has severely harmed black America. And if so, connect it to the election. No one tells stories from the other side.

Keep in mind that the BBC correspondent reporting this, Greg Palast, is on record as opposing the Bush Administration in articles he has written for British tabloids. As a result, anything he says, even under the guise of the vaunted BBC, is VERY suspect as far as I'm concerned.

I wouldn't give a plug nickel for the Beeb's thoughts as a whole either (I seem to recall the BBC being smacked down by Blair's government for blowing state secrets in the War in Iraq for the express purpose of blowing up the war).

Thank you so much!
that clears up a lot. As a newbie one (well, I) tend(s) to enthusiastically jump into the goings on, so to speak - and yes, I should have read the rules beforehand. If this site pays more attention to strict rules on decency and what is generally allowed, and on guidelines towards posting - that is great! I saw too many free-for-all boards where the end result is chaos. So - hey ho, let's go! flaggie.

Was there a place on the ballot to mark the race of the voter?

that is one of the tricks involved - they did not specify how it was done. You were left in the dark, with nothing much to go by.
