Friends, I have a question. Yesterday a friend told me he had heard about a number of papers having changed their endorsement from GOP to Dem. I was surprised, in that I as a European did not know about the strong tradition in America of papers singling out a specific candidate as their choice. Of course I was none too pleased with papers changing over to JFK. But please tell me: how is the general status of the number of papers choosing Kerry over Bush or vice versa? And, most important of all, how much influence do newspapers have on voters' choices anyway? I am very curious! Cheers, flaggie.
Let's see Putin Endorsed President Bush, and Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi has publicly endorsed the re-election of US President George W. Bush. Even Tehran has endorsed Bush. Pat Buchanan Endorses President Bush. Democrats,Zell Miller, and Former NY Mayor Koch endorsed President Bush.
Both the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News In Colorado endorsed President Bush. The Oklahoman has endorsed George W. Bush. The Cincinnati Post Endorsed Bush. The Boston Herald endorsed Bush on Oct. 20. Even John Kerry's hometown Paper the Lowell Sun Endorsed President Bush. Over 60 other Newspapers have endorsed Bush.
I don't think you have your story right.
Thanks, AM1776! -
I got it from a friend, remember? But your post is encouraging, man - keep 'em coming! Only a week to go, and it promises to be a great Election Night; I'm gonna stay up here in Europe, promised. Flaggie.
Many American newspapers started as an extention of a political party, and some still have "Democrat" in the name of the paper even today. Most major papers have a strong left tendency. The influence of newspapers on voting has decreased significantly since Cable news channels have taken off, and even more with the recent popularity of the internet.
