Uh, we don't know where you are, so how would we be able to answer your question. Are you near a city? What talk stations do you want to listen to?

Vanities are fine, IMO, but you really must give us something to work with.

Are you talking about in your home or in your car? It's difficult to get decent AM reception in your home - especially if you live in a concrete block structure.

Use the internet. You can listen to Rush on wjno, and you can listen to most any other talk show host you want pretty much whenever you want.

What's with the terrible radio reception for the talk radio station when all the other FM stations come in really clear.

I'm assuming that you reside in Missouri, and that your talk radio station is on the FM band.

What are the call letters of the talk radio FM station you are trying to listen to? Some FM stations have more output power than others, and others increase their broadcast power during the day and cut it back at night. Your problem could be due to any number of factors, and the only way we are going to be able to help you figure it out is to find out which FM station you are trying to listen to.

Is your talk radio station on AM? Most talk radio is AM radio. You mention that FM comes in fine. How far are you from the transmitter? Any mountains in between you and the transmitter? What's the wattage of the station in question? If the station you're interested in is AM, you can get a booster antenna.

C. Crane Company has radios designed for better reception in areas of poor reception, plus AM antennas.

On an ironic note - a talk radio show in MD recently started broadcasting and their signal is interfering with EVERYTHING electronic in my house - telephone, computer speakers etc. I can't even hold a conversation on my own phone line - its like having a radio on in the earpiece.

Multiple calls to FCC. No help. Multiple calls to station. Stonewalling. I'm fed up and see only 2 options: go down to Annapolis and get my congress-criter involved, or handle this the Marine Corp way.

Station is WMET at 301-921-0093. Any ideas?

Go to http://www.radio-locator.com/

Type in your location.

Click on the info icon for the stations you're interested in.

Click on view coverage maps

Does your talk station use an 8 watt transmitter like my college station. You could almost receive it in the more remote parking lots.

I have two shortwave radios at home. One I bought for over $200 at Radio Shack and the reception for AM is really cruddy. I bought the second one for $2 at a yard sale and it came with a huge antenna. This one gets stations from North Carolina, Canada, Washington DC, New York, etc.

I suggest a good antenna. Now that it is getting colder out you will get better reception too and reception is always better at night.

For the last 2 weeks or so in my area of the northern panhandle of WV I'm unable to pick up any of the am stations on my radio. It's very staticky. I thought it was just us. Signals were always hard to get in my valley but just lately all stations sound like I'm right near some transformer constant harsh buzzing...........tin foil vs. I wouldn't put anything past anybody anymore.

Probably just coincidence but the FM station I usually listen to talk radio on (yes it is FM talk) has been nothing but static for the last week.

I don't recall the call letters but it is 93.7, Dothan-Enterprise.

This flips me out. I have a late model American made auto. I used to get perfect AM and FM reception in the same areas I now (and for the past 8 or more months receive abysmal AM reception. This does not happen in another family vehicle (German). I kept wondering if it was a faulty AM module in my radio, interference (purposeful or otherwise in the area) or a bad connection with the AM antenna. The problem is intermittent. But sometimes (most of the time in the past six months) it's been really, really bad. So I got a NEW radio in my car. The problem still exists. Again, I never had a problem with my radio before.

No, you're not the only person to notice. My FM talk radio station has been on the blink for the past 10 days. Previously having wonderful reception, all of a sudden I couldn't even tune it in at all. After listened to AM's scratchy reception for a while and checking the FM channel daily, it finally came back on this morning. The two local commentators stated specifically that it was not a nefarious democratic plot, but offered no explanation other than something was down. Sheesh, I'm a member in good standing of the VRWC and know a dirty dem ploy when I see one ;-).

You have to remember that FM is much less prone to noise and interference. AM can be affected by light dimmers and especially flourescent lights, and reception is likely very poor in office buildings. Modern AM radios are usually fairly poor. The C. Crane radios are fairly good, but for real AM reception try one of the old boatanchors, they are unsurpassed in tone quality and reaching down and separating distant stations.
